Massive mechanical failure. Not a good day...

If I was paying it would be Hartech all the way, no doubt. If the dealer is paying then whatever he offers, if it has a 2 year warranty.

When he has fitted the new engine, I would run it straight up to Hartech for some work, .................

Not such a good idea, because it would then surely invalidate the said 2 year warranty.

JFB I am more than delighted for you. Well done mate! You stuck with it and the outcome is great.

I am getting the full engine rebuild at Hartech, and the dealer is covering most of it. It seems we are both closer to Porschecarnirvana than before our failures: it almost makes all the hassle worth it...

Good stuff. And you mate - glad you got a good outcome too.

There comes a point where you just want the bloody thing back on the road doing what it does best. Glad we got there in the end... :thumb:

Also not required as (as I mentioned in my post) the new engines supplied have had most (if not all) of the known issues fixed.

JFB,
A new new engine, An absolute spanker, well beyond expectations, I think you should give the dealer some credit as he sounds like a standup guy.

JFB; that's great news - the absolute best outcome you could have hoped for really. 8)

New engine (not just new, but improved internals over your original 2004/5 unit), free of charge, fitted by Porsche, warranted for another 2 years and back on the road within a couple of weeks - happy days!! :thumb:

Cheers guys. And thanks for all the advice / support / online counselling to date! :thumb:

Yeah - the dealer (who I won't call out until I'm actually back on the road - call me cynical!) has been absolutely brilliant so far to be fair to him.

It was a genuine tough luck story - he had no idea the engine was duff and he immediately said he felt fully liable to get me sorted. Top man.

Ant Blain - all correct save that it won't be fitted by Porsche - it'll be fitted by the dealers mechanics (and the dealer was a non-Porsche specialist indy) but it will be checked over by the guys at JZM after fitment for sign off, so I'm comfortable.

Still won't believe it until it's done but that's just me!

Top result jfb.

Great news.

As a newbie lurker I'm delighted you finally got the right result, well done! :D

Car and engine being collected today from Byfleet...off to have a heart transplant! :D

The dealer offered to meet me half way on the outstanding invoice at Byfleet for the strip down (£1,300 inc VAT!!), but rather than have him write me a cheque I'm going to ask him to take care of the front end respray I wanted to do anyway and also repair a small leather scuff on my driver's seat bolster.

Being in the trade he'll probably save a few quid vs paying half my bill, but it saves me time and hassle and means I pick up the car with a new engine, a freshly painted front end and 100% ready to roll.

Can't friggin' wait!!

If it were me , i'd organise the paint myself and have him pay half the strip cost .
If he has a cheap paint job by an inexperienced painter it could look awful.....

They did a little work for me before and it was good quality - so I'm comfortable. They normally trade in Rolls Royce and Bentley so their paint shop is pretty good.

Wow, brilliant outcome!

Shame about the heartache along the way, but great news in the end!
