40k on a GT3, which one would you choose?

....Yeah, Nick's a bright lad (don't tell him though)...and he was clearly
checking out which parts of that car could be used to further re-modify
his...nice one ! :floor:

Damn. Rumbled. I was secretly just checking to see how hard it would be to nick the headers & cats off it

I don't know why I hang around with you wusses - a bit of inclement weather & you tuck them away unused for weeks and then moan about withdrawal symptoms. FFS, man up!

As James will confirm, mine is lovely & filthy :D

Yep, saw it with my own eyes, Nicks car would have done Colin McRae proud! But then again it was hardly a :whiteangel: in the first place :) :D

Mine earlier today :D

yuk !!

Nothing wrong with a car that's got honest road muck on it :thumb:

In other news, had a call from James earlier with some very positive news which leads me to believe he may soon have a new car (or at least not have his old one!). Don't want to jinx it though...

Keeping everything crossed for you James :D

Manthey - Manthey - Manthey :worship:

Sorry to dive right in without a proper introduction, but this thread caught my attention have been lurking around the forum for a while and thought it was time for a first post.

Looking to change my Exige S for a GT3 and have a budget of about £38k there are a few for sale on pistonheads at around that price. A mixture of Mk1 and 2's the pick of the bunch for me would be this one

But what of the cheaper ones any reasons to avoid them or not work considering

(wrong wheels?!)

Any others worth considering around my budget?

thanks

You're right, Spennyb's car is a peach. I've seen it at Chris Franklin's and I would say it's as described. He's spent money on making it look good & go well and it shows.

Don't know about the first one, but with Alcon's and 888's it's likely to have been tracked. That's not necessarily a bad thing, but it puts some people off for some reason. It's also extremely cheap for age & miles, so you need to ask why.

As you say, wrong wheels on the second (they will be 10" rears & should be 11"). It also has rear seatbelts which is just wrong on a GT3. Besides, the advert is cr*p :x

Generally GT3's wear their age & miles well, but there are some dogs out there with hidden damage. Don't just rely on a clear HPI check, get any car you are looking at buying properly inspected by someone who knows what to look for on GT3's.

Good luck with the search :thumb:

It's an ad for Adrian Ong's old GT3 MK1 (the polarexpress). It's a Manthey K400 conversion & is well known both on here & in the wider GT3 community. It's got 68K miles on it & is up for £37.5K

so let's look at the facts

it was for sale by the previous owner Adrien Ong for almost 50k when it was claimed to be a straight car

but it was uncovered by the current owner through JZM that the car has been involved in 2 very big off's, facts hidden by the previous owner

a big off at the Nurburgring, repaired by Manthey

but then straight into a concrete wall of the silverstone pitlane at high speed, it was a miracle the car wasn't a Cat D at the time

how can he claimed it was repaired to a higher standard than before, WTF, you telling me a fresh chassis fro Porsche is not as good as a crash repair

so these are the facts
-----------------
With all the repair work the car should be valued as if it was a Cat repaired, although was never registered as one, still not a bad car for no more than £35k

Those pics don't look like a bad shunt imho? You sure that bent the chassis?

CatDs are down at the 30 mark, this wouldnt be much more with that mileage and use. GT3's are bullet proof but they need looking after, this car has all the signs of heavy track use, any sensible buyer should budget for gearbox/diff rebuilds which arent cheap, also the age/condition of the wrap, doesnt last forever. Trade bid on such crash track cars (CatD or not) with high miles are down in the 20's but 35 is what we could 'hope' to sell it for and we certainly couldnt warranty any of it.

Mk1 996 GT3s market is all about looking original which are in demand, that is where our money is :)

Hypothetically ofcourse. I'm just speculating and saw these advertised. Which 1 would you go for?

The MKI is slightly over priced and the MKII looks a good buy, money wise that is.
