This is my current 993 C2 (Cristel), which I bought in February of this year:

I purchased my car privately six weeks ago from a PCGB member. I didn't know he was in PCGB until I went to view the car for the first time. He'd bought it 12 months earlier from Ray Northway. He had the car advertised via PCGB and on www.carandclassic.com. The seller had trouble loading the images of the car on carandclassic and had only been on there for 24 hours when I went to see it over in Essex. I fell for the car first time I laid eyes on her, even though it was pouring down. The seller already owned two other Porsches, a Mini and a VW T2 crew cab. I think his wife was pushing him to sell it but he didnt really want to!

I'd been looking for a manual 993 C2 Varioram coupe with black leather and under 50k miles for about 12 months. Because such a car hardly ever comes up for sale, I knew I didn't have time to mess about and being a former 993 owner I knew enough of the basics to do a minor PPI. Risky I know, but I also did an HPI and as the car came from Ray I felt assured it would be a good one.

I managed to get some money off the advertised price, as the car was due for a 48k service (with 45k miles on the clock), even though she had only done 3k miles since her last service 12 month before. During the service Ray found that she needed one new damper on the back, which obviously equals two new ones. I had teflon tape put around the windscreen seal and a new rear side window put in due to some scratches on the glass. Otherwise she was given a clean bill of health! I've since relaxed into ownership now I know she is definitely a good one.....

For the suspension refresh I've had a Porsche M033 kit fitted, but the car feels too soft for me now, almost floaty during cornering or lane changes at high speed. As she is factory M030 I'm moving to Bilstein B6 HDs all round and putting my M030 springs back on. I've since had a Becker Grand Prix fitted, but this sits more flush in the dash and has shown up a few marks on the surrounding dash panel :frustrated:. Have been on the phone to Southbound and the part is £260 and fitting £225! Will be worth it though, as I bring her up to the condition I want.

Next I'm having the paintwork sorted and a wheel refurb, just a few minor scratches and blemishes that are annoying me. Am also having the engine fan housing sprayed, which I think is supposed to be Zermatt Silver. Going to speak to Specialised Paintwork, Ty Fuller and Premier Bodyshops to see what they can do.

This is my old 993 (Claudia) from five years ago; gone but not forgotten. She doesn't even exist on the DVLA database anymore. :?: Sold her to Hendon Way Motors (not a p/x).

I really like the cab, but hankered after a coupe even then. Now I have one of my dream cars!

Hi

For anyone interested: as I have been following this site for a few months now thought it about time I come clean about my Porsche ownership.

My first experience was of a P reg, arena red, carrera 4. Bought this in 2003 sold in 2006. Took mileage from 46k to 120k. Gr8 mid life crisis. Sold it (OK her) cos license could not keep up with the cheques my ego was writing.

April 2009 license was now less hot. Bought 997 carrera 2. '54 plate. Mileage: 39k. Sept of '09 I accepted that a 997 is still a hairdresser's car and started to look for redemption.

Feb 2010 bought R reg Turbo from Malton Cars. Mileage: 59k. Engine rebuilt at 55k and bhp had been taken to 530 by previous owner.
First impressions: did I ever travel in a car this small? how did I ever live without such a noise? Isn't my third mid-life crisis going!? Gosh, I never knew before how much power I NEEDED in a car! If I have to die let it be with the wail of this engine in my ears!!
Had car checked by OPG, said it was very clean, good car.
At present, I plan to iron out a few creases left in the car, not least the stupid squeaking windscreen (how could previous owner make such silly mistake!?).
If I have anything interesting to post you will hear from me.

TY

On my 4th 993 Now.

1st - 1996N 993 C2 Man Ocean Blue Vario
2nd- 1997R 993C2S Tip Artic Silver
3rd - 1998R 993C4S Man Zenith Blue
Now - 1995N 993 Turbo Polar Silver, Absolute Minter, 34k miles. A Keeper

Funnily, they all got newer, and then the Turbo is the oldest but in by far the best all round condition, and as for the SPEED - OMG

Just bought my first 993 (previously had a 928S2 several years back).

1996N C2 Coupe Manual Varioram in Turquoise Green L25D, base 16" wheels(!)68k Miles, 3 previous owners. Service history was Merlin for first 5 years, then single Northway, then all Paragon since 2003.

Suspension changed to M033 in 2007. Cam covers done. Door straps both excellent (one replaced by Paragon a couple of years back).

Work I need to do is Clutch at some stage over the next year or so, the front brakes, they squeel like crazy and the handbrake, it's about as much use as a chocolate teapot, even though a garage supposedly did all the necessary brake rectification work just over 1 month ago to provide an MOT (under previous ownership!)

Two 993's for me, C2 and RS

Having been lurking for some time, I thought it was time I came out of the shadows and cast my vote.

I'd wanted a 911 for more years than I care to remember but when I was finally in a position to afford one, I started to worry about servicing and repair costs. I'm ashamed to say I weakened and even went so far as to place a deposit on a Scirocco R.

Happily I discovered this forum and encouraged by the excellent advice and humour went to look at a Hartech car, was smitten and took the plunge. I can't say I've regretted my decision for a moment!

I picked up my C4 at the beginning of August and have already clocked up over 3,000 miles, having just completed a trip to see a friend in Switzerland and visit the Porsche Museum at Stuttgart. Hopefully I've managed to post a couple of pictures taken at the old Reims circuit on the way back. As this was about 1,500 miles into the trip, the car may look a little travel stained. I make no apologies for this, I prefer driving to cleaning!

Neil :bye:

Nice write up Neil, thanks for posting the photos of your car at Reims too. Would love to pay the site a visit. What did the atmophere feel like there? Looks like they have restored the painted sponsor logos?

Is your 993 a daily driver or a weekend/holiday car? It looks great in that setting. Let's see a few more photos of the car and your trip!

Hope to see you at an event soon.

If you are anywhere near Reims then it's a minor detour to the circuit. A local group are now working to preserve the old pit buildings and grandstands. In addition to repainting, I understand some repairs have been carried out and a lot of overgrown vegetation cleared. However it's early days and the signs of years of neglect are still present. I think some of the atmosphere may be lost as restoration continues. It's staggering to think F1 and large capacity sportscars used to race there in the days before pitwalls.

I had camera problems on my trip but attach a general shot of the pit straight and a close up of my 993 on the pit apron. The car is/will be a daily driver but at the moment I'm still also using my Corrado VR6 until I get round to advertising it for sale.

Neil
