Hi everyone,

there is a really nice 2005 997 C2S locally for a good price. I'm going to have a look at it in the next couple of days. Its for sale at a non Porsche garage. I'd like to know are there any specific things to look out for on the C2S, anything common faults, anything to look out for on the test drive? I've never driven a 911 before and dont want to look like a total newbie at the garage (although I am!), if it looks like I know what I am looking for then may be able to bargain a bit better.

Thanks for any help.

Why not go to an OPC and test drive a car or two there before you head over to the independent? That way you will have an idea of what to expect from the car and you will have a good benchmark to compare it with.

It might be worth you looking at Total 911 web site and looking for the back issue that had a 997 buyers guide. Not too many faults - pretty robust but if you don't know what you are looking at have an independent inspection done on the car - we always advise that especially from a non-Porsche specialist.

One important thing is to consider where the car is in it's service schedule as if it's due it's first major service you might be getting a big bill for service, brakes, maybe clutch etc + add a grand to that if it needs new tyres soon.

Feel free to post some specifics about the car up.

How much is the C2s up for?? there are quite varying prices... try to go for a high spec car.... I acutally ended up in a C2, since it was the highest spec I could find for the money I wanted to spend... I personall drove both cars.. and the performance difference of 30 bhp is minimal.... What spec does the car you looking at have??

thanks for the replies.

I am going to try a car out at the Porsche local dealer (about 40 mins drive away in Bolton), this car is up for sale at a Saab dealer if you can believe it and is just 2 mins walk down the road from my house!

Its a 2005 (54) Carrera 2S, 37,000 miles, leather interior, air con, porsche navigation. The want approx £34k for it.

I really agree with the other advice.

Do go look at other cars! Test drive a few.

Make a few notes about what you want from a car.

Its a buyers market so really really go in hard on a price.

If they say no walk away.

I've been watching a few cars that have been up for sale for 6 months!!

You may get unlucky and sods law will say it sells the following day but hey ho!

You sound very much like me! Very excited ... UNDERSTANDABLY ..about getting a 911! WHO WOULDN'T BE!! Its a dream come true!! To most of us!!

Don't rush in though.

Mark Pearce at www.stirlings.co.uk

is where I bought my car from. He posts on here a lot. Worth reading his site info.

Also this site and this page in particular.

http://www.911virgin.com/buyingtips.htm

Thennm look at adds and post them on here.

The knowledge of people on here is vast. They can tell you price, spec and generally make it the right buy.

Good luck,

Have fun!!

Ohhhh welcome to the site!

David

thanks David,

yeah, am certainly not going to rush in and be pushed around by any dealers/sellers. Like you said its a buyers market. I'll have a look at the links you posted. I cant believe what a bargain these cars are now, practically half the price of original from a couple of years ago for such an epic car!

Porsche East London have a better spec, lower mileage car, great colour combo at £36,860.00

Porsche Newcastle have a slightly higher mileage car at £33,990.00

Both would come fully prep'd and with an official Porsche one year warranty (worth £1,500.00), good tyres and would have had a service.

The car you have pointed to is well priced but not exceptional enough to jump on it just because you saw it down the road.

As others have said, take your time and think about the options / colour you want.

Good luck with your search Priyan.

Just to add to the good advice posted here: When you have selected your preferred car, do consider a Pre-Purchase Inspection (PPI) from a knowledgeable source. A few hundred quid can potentially save you thousands - not just in maintenance, it can also provide you with useful ammunition to support hard bargaining on price/extras.

I used http://911uk.com/template.php?page=84 for my C2S. It's well worth it for the peace of mind!

thanks for all the advice guys. This was the first car I've seen, looking at another at Bolton porsche tomorrow.

The car was immaculate, drove really well and had a good spec. The colour is good too. Price was more competitive than the quoted one and he would throw in a full porsche service for which it is due, only thing is it doesnt have any warranty on it.

It drove really well. I was very very impressed by the 997 C2S. The last 911 I had been in was my brothers 996 turbo and the C2S didnt feel any slower yet was probably better inside.

I'm going to take my time and look at a few. So tempting to get this one though!!! Dont worry, I probably wont.
