Hi all,

I am trying to understand the best iPod connection to have fitted to a 997 Gen1 and am told the Dension Gateway is highly recommended.

Does anyone have this fitted and if so what are your thoughts? Does it route nicely throught the PCM for track selection etc?

Alternatively, any others suggested?

Thanks a lot :D

I looked into this when I picked up my 996 in October- and have ended up sticking with the FM transmitter that I already had.

Am not sure this is my final solution, but I havent found any problems with reception, and it leaves the iPod well placed to control it directly.

Only real issue is that it uses the cigarette lighter and so makes running a sat nav at the same time a bit awkward- but a socket splitter gets around this if needs be.

i have this one- its very easy to operate and does a much better job than a previous one i had:

hi

i had a dension gateway 500 in my old 997 mk1 It worked very well!!

Just leave the ipod on shuffle and away you go. The full details of track, album, artist etc can be shown in full on the screen. Hope this helps.

hi,

i've had the m0bridge BT unit fitted to my 997 Gen 1 by JZM. You can flick through the Artists, Albums, Playlists, etc but the scrolling is quite slow. The PCM can only list 99 items at a time, getting the next 99 takes time. It's not easy to use whilst driving. The audio quality is good, but this is dependant on the bitrate of the track. I use 128kbit and i might re-burn some CDs using 192kbit.

I've used Dension in previous BMWs, the menu system is pretty much the same with the m0bridge. I decided on the m0bridge because overall it had better reviews than the Dension, plus the fact it had BT in one unit was the deal clincher.

I'm really impressed with the Bluetooth integration. The PCM thinks the SIM is in, but in fact it's connected to your phone via BT. The phonebook also syncs (i'm using a Nokia E51 and a 3G iPhone).
