I'm investigating whether I can directly hook up my ipod without going to the expense of say a Dension Gateway 500. (I'm not bothered about controlling the ipod through the CD player, just letting it constantly play on shuffle is fine by me.) Anyway my 2004 997 has the Bose upgrade but i need to know precisely which head unit I've got: CDr-23 , CDR-24 or COmmand ?

How can I find out please?

2004 cdr23 and cdr24 are MOST units, they are Fibre Optic and don't have an AUX input so you need a GW500 , the alternative is Dension IcelinkFM with a dock lead or cradle. FM modulation sound quality is not brilliant, and FM transmission kits are even worse. If you dont have an existing 6Cd multiplay and you want to fit the GW500 , the GW500 will need to be activated and positioned correctly in the MOST circuit by a Porsche Dealer or an Autologic unit with Porsche Software.

Thanks X50. I don't have a cd changer but I really don't want to involve an OPC. Cannot a car hi fi specialist activate the 500?

Nope....unless they have diagnostic equipment costing around £5,000 and then the software for Porsche another£2,000.. what most do is take the vehicle to an Autologic Dealer and pay circa £40 to get it activated into the M.O.S.T loop...like i said the cheapest way would be FM but poor quality.....get the GW500, although with CDR23 you wont get text display, that's only on PCM
