Stuart, doctorlanning and I would like some feedback and I know there is nowhere better than 911uk.

On another thread we have been discussing the merits, cost and where to get a 997 c2s boosted in performance (remap/chip/other).

http://www.911uk.com/viewtopic.php?t=39993

I wanted to get more peoples attention with the 'subject' so have started this new thread with a more direct title.

What we would like are peoples experiences (recent or other) as to where/how/how much this has cost people and how many more smiles :D :D :D this has put on peoples faces. Do you notice the difference and do you get the 26bhp the x51 package from opc would give.

Please let us know.

Pete

I've had DMS do a remap on mine. Supposed to yield 20 to 23bhp increase. The cost was £1,000 but you can get it cheaper for £ notes.

My views have been documented previously, however it has been left with me to organise a RR visit at an independent sports car specialist and DMS, will put my original Map back on the ECU, run on the RR, record the results, then put the re-map back on an do the same tests.

The only issue with this is that even though DMS are pretty good to deal with I don't think having this done will convince me either way. Being a sceptic, what stops DMS putting a poor map back on the ECU (not the original) therefore increasing the possibly of showing an increase of (20-23bhp) when compared to an inferior map.

The car drives differently for certain. As for the 6% gain in power I'm not so sure, but could you really feel that increase anyway.

Costs (or did) £8k to get the x51 kit on the C2S to get it to 381bhp an increase of 26bhp!!

Still remain unconvinced personally... :)

My advice. Get it on the RR first, let DMS or whoever do the remap, then run the RR again....Don't do it without it....

For me and a big issue, no-one seems to get this done first for some reason....or I have not found anyone who's had DMS remap and had the car tested for BHP first...

Anyone know of a good rolling road in London area, pref SW?

I have no experience of them, how much does it cost to have the car tested etc?

Would be interesting to see

Thanks

ResB, you are a true cynic after my own heart. I would deffo put it on the RR first as only then will I be sure of the improvement. This must be the scientist in me coming out. Surely a newish car should be close to the official bhp from the brochure :?:

What will opc say about the warranty? Void?

Pete

I think re mapping a n/a porsche 996/997 is probably a bit of a waste of time. DMS and the others will happily take your money off you though I'm sure but as far as value for money goes......

Even on a turbo, which w a remap will give an undeniable (warranty voiding) improvement I still think £1k+ is a rip off as it has no residual value whatsoever, voids your warranty and they will not warranty their own work either.

If it was £200 I could understand it but at those prices it is verging on exploitation.

The remap is undetectable by the OPC aparently. I've had mine in a few times and no-one has said anything.

DMS say, if the damage can be proved that the remap causes the damage they will warranty a new engine or what ever, but, and it's a big but, how do you prove the remap was the cause.... I duuno. :nooo:

May i introduce the APR remap as an option to you all?

http://goapreu.com/products/ecu_upgrade_997carrera.html

APR are a large US based company (http://goapr.com/Porsche/) and we have been offerering their VAG range for the last 5 years and have moved into the porsche market recently.

We are based in manchester and have a dynojet 4WD rolling road so can do before and after runs, or even if you all wished we could hold a forum rolling road day for you - this is something we do regularly and post the runs online: http://www.awesome-gti.co.uk/page.php?xPage=rollingroad.html

Hope i havent offended by posting...

a Rolling Road team day sounds like a great idea!

What sort of deal could you offer?

Edward

Ditto that but have some concerns. The prices mentioned on their site are the same for GIAC and REVO, 2 much more well known and 'respected' Porsche tuners. Why pay the same price for a company which hasn't had much experience in Porsche tuning? I understand that reputations are built and you have to start somewhere but I really don't want to be the guinea pig :?

I'm open to hear their thoughts though :thumb:

We do 2wd cars for £35+vat and 4wd for £45+vat on group days (3 runs)

If you do some research about Revo you will find they were originally APR Europe.. APR is a long establised American company, you can read here some info about the company and see their 996 and 997 test vehicles:
http://goapr.com/Porsche/whyapr/index.html
They have some building! with a race track of their own built on their land

Some info from EVO about APR's Porsche side here:
http://www.evo.co.uk/carreviews/evocarreviews/209161/porsche_911.html

They are into motorsport in a big way and have had Sabine Schmitz as their team driver in their Golf GTI race car.

Have a wonder around their site and i'm sure you will then believe them to be a reputable company :)

Ourselves, we have been in business since 1989 and have the side company APR Europe for the last 5years.

Does seem quite a well respected USA firm from having read the blurb, (!) and the EVO report is promising

One question... if they say the 610BHP Turbo they test here made by this firm has the chassis to the limit, what happens to the chassis with some of Gemballa, 9ff or Sportec's 800bhp plus versions!

I will be for a free remap :D

I have a Revo SPS module - will this work with your remaps? I had to switch off and give away my Revo remap when I traded my car back to the dealer :nooo:

All that seems fairly impressive. My initial concern was with this statement...
