Where to buy a 997

Hello everyone,

I've recently sold my Boxster and am now looking at getting a 997 Carrera S Cabriolet. I originally thought I wanted a 996 but after test driving both, I felt that I preferred the 997. Partly because I felt it was a much more solid drive and I also prefer the interior, as my Boxster was a 987 and sitting in the 996 felt like I had gone back in time...

I am looking for advice as to where I should buy the car. I bought my Boxster from an OPC, which was simple and straightforward, but man did I pay over the odds for it. If I was to buy a 996 I would go private or specialist for sure, but it seems to me that the 997 market is pretty sewn up by the OPC's. Is it worth waiting for more 997's to find their way into the private / specialist market or are they just going to be the poorest examples with the OPC's getting the best ones? I feel I paid over the odds last time and don't want to make the same mistake again!

Any advice would be really appreciated!

There are plenty of indies listed on this site and you'd be well advised to look at them. OPC may well have the best examples covered but people like Mark Pearce (http://www.stirlings.co.uk/) have the low mileage ones covered too! I myself am scouting for a 997 and will most probably buy from an indie but making sure it has an OPC warranty (which I believe Mark would include).

Thanks for the reply - yes, I've been looking at the indies as this is definitely the way I want to go when I purchase, however they don't seem to have very many 997's compared to 996's but I suppose that's just because there aren't as many around. There are absolutely tons of 996's being dumped on the market at the moment, but not 997's! Patience, I suppose...

The reason why you dont see a lot of 997 at indies are the prices
you can stock 3 997's and have £150,000 plus tied up
£150,000 could buy a 996 turbo, a 996 C4S and a 3 more cars, unfortunately the dearer the cars the profit margin doesn't increase at the same time

I hear varying stories of main dealers being overstocked and not buying, I ve been offered 4 997 cabs this week, but personally prefer to buy the coupes,

At the moment i would advise anyone to find a reputable indie ( hopefully me) to source a car for them, there are some very nice cars that the main dealers aren't buying

I would agree, get a good indie on board like Mark Pearce and get them to source one for you. You might get a better price that way as they won't need to tie up their cash for long.

I have a client looking to out an awesome spec car at the moment but it is only a 997 C2 Cab.

OPC's can do good prices.

In April, I paid £56k for a '55' plate, decent spec, Seal 997S with 4500 miles and 1 owner...which for an OPC with a years Warranty seemed pretty good!
