Getting a little misfire when engien is hot. runs fine but when i kickdown, it sometimes backfires/misfires and get a little pop.

Is this normal to this car ?

What exhaust configuration have you got? I used to get pops on over run when the G pipe was fitted but this disappeared when I replaced it with an original final silencer.

ho boxsey,

its more when i boot the accelerator for a kickdown and it seems to misfire and then go l normal again. not on overrun.

I heard something abut the dual distributor belt wear thing causing this but not sure why ?

would love to be enlightened on this !

Ciao

By 'kickdown' do you mean you have a tiptronic? Not that this should lead to a misfire.

Problems with the distributor belt usally manifest themselves by a lot of misfiring and the inability to rev past 4,000 rpm from what I've heard. A small misfire could be a bad HT lead or plug.

hi boxsey,

yeh i have the tiptronic. manuals are as rare as hens teeth out here. spend most of the time in traffic jams in HK anyway.

It revs fine and way past 4K easily

Perhaps it is a duff plug or lead. Is it true you need to take the engine out to change all the piugs or can you do it in situ by removing some stuff ?

Dont have a manual so dont know what recomended oil, plug, filter change etc is. what is recommended ?

Cheers

There's no need to take the engine out to change the plugs but you have to remove the undertray and the shields each side that the tray is attached to. The top plugs on the left side are difficult to get to without removing part of the blower pipework. There should be a special spark plug remover in your tool kit to help access. It's a time consuming and fiddly job.

Plugs should be changed every 12,000 miles. Oil and filter every 6,000 miles.

talking of plugs i checked the price of a new set of leads the other day!

Oil should be every 12K miles or 12 months IMO. 6K is too short / over the top unless you are tracking the car regularly.

Agree plugs every 12K. Also remember tappets should be set every 12K as well. Many places only do the tappets every 24K but officially it should be every 12K.

Yes you're right of course Ian, thanks for the correction. I was working from my own guidelines on the oil change - I do less than 6,000 miles pa (some on track) so therefore I effectively do an annual oil change.

Interestingly, while the Porsche service schedule indicates only a 12K mile oil change, some specialists like Ninemeister advocate a 6K mile oil change and include it on their menu servicing.

Demonfish,

dont keep us in suspense then ? How much ??

folks,

following on from this subject, sometimes when the car is cold, the car can stall -its a tiptronic so no wise cracks on learning how to drive with a clutch.

Idle is very stable but sometimes when you rev it on standstill (as one does to hear the engine), it will drop the revs down and stall. Not very often just sometimes.

Am i correct in assuming that the idle is all controlled by the ECU and is non adjustable, therefore, nothing much i can do about it.
