Well, its a year now since i got my 996C4S.
The car had 17000 miles when i got it, and has now just passed 21000. Only 4000 miles in a year is not a lot i know, but the car is used nearly every day for my 4 mile commute to work.
When i got the car i knew it was going to need new discs and pads due to the dreaded corrosion on the inside face of the discs. The parts where about £700 from Porscheshop and i fitted them myself. It was a piece of cake, only took about 2 hours to do all four corners.
The next item was 4 new tyres, continentals at £650 fitted.
The car has now just had its 48000 mile (4 Year ) service at my local indy porsche specialists, cost for that was £450 including the spark plug change including vat. The car also passed its MOT with no problem.
All things considered i dont think these prices are too bad, its a lot cheaper than my previous M3 was for tyres and servicing.
The car came with an independant warranty (Not Porche warranty) from the indy dealer that i got the car from. The warranty does appear to be very comprehensive and covers all major engine components up to the value of the car. This warranty runs out begining of July and i dont yet know which way to go with the warranty, get the car 111 point inspected and take out the OPC warranty which will cost about £1000 (assuming it passes the inspection) or renew the independant warrnty at a cost of £350.
With my previous cars i have never bothered extending warranties and have never had any problems. But this is my first Porsche and i have never been so paranoid about major mechanical failure as i am with this car. I think this is probably the worst part of the ownership experience. I am just waiting for RMS failure, radiator problems, basically anything to go wrong.
I do get a bit of smoke from it on cold morning startups and also have the usual mayonnaise in the oil filer cap. The smoke goes away almost immediately and i am not using any coolant so dont think ther is a problem, it just appears to be a feature of this engine, or thats what i tell myself when lying awake at night worrying about it.
Having said all of this WHAT A CAR, ITS FANTASTIC. it looks great, is brilliant to drive, even my two kids love it and regularly get squeezed into the back of it for the school run.
Next on the aggenda is a sports exhaust (see my previous thread). Still havent made my mind upp which one to fit yet, but i will get one sorted, probably with an induction kit as well.
Also fancy doing some track days, did Silverstone GP circuit many years ago in my Escort Cosworth and fancy another go in the Posrche, also maybe a trip to the Ring.
Thanks for reading
Time to finish work now and go the long way home.

PS Hope the pics work
