Cheers for the info, pmjt and everyone else, now i know where i stand.
Looks like a long job with a deep endless hole in the pocket and even then you may have to end up borrowing some.
Whats everyone's opinion on paul stephens retro 911's, anyone driven or heard about them?

Personally I think the PS cars are overpriced and pointless - with a modern car that's backdated - it'll always be a modern car - with a 'period' car that's been made a replica, it's always a period car - Hairpin have a green 70's RS replica - I have one now for trackdays - a better bet than destroying a real RS

Philip - that green RS replica looks wonderful. What's the downside to owning an older Porker like this compared to say a 993? For example does one have to worry about rust / spares availability / breaking down etc? Sorry if these are daft questions, but these older cars are starting to fascinate me now....

What's it like? Pleasure and pain - joy and frustration - agony and extasy (sp?).

The pre-76 cars are not galvanized so you can only use them on very, very good days when the winter is here and NEVER when the salt is down (for those who remember me taking my RS to the Ace, I studied weather reports for days making sure it had rained plenty to wash the salt away before taking her out).

But for the April to October period - there's nothing finer to drive. The noise, the raw feeling, the positive reactions you get from other drivers, the smile on your face is wonderful.

BUT classic car ownership has its problems - I spent about £1,500 on sorting oil leaks with one of the major 'specialists' - the car came back and began leaking worse than before.

I just got back from a long trip to Singapore - and threw her on the trailer to a proper specialist Mike Bainbridge in Kendal - £200 later and she's dry as a bone (oil return tubes just gave out!) - I've been hooning her around the Dales all day - there's no better joy.

Spares are becomming hard to find - but they are out there - you have to have patience and be careful not to buy crap - rust, avoid the winter and you'll be fine.

Breaking down? It's all about preventative maintenance - look after it properly and they'll run well forever: - I haven't had my 2.0S out for six months - just pulled her from the garage - started first time - did 50 miles and pulled silly speeds - no car can give so much joy.

Are they worth it? I should cocoa!

Philip. I can understand why you haven't totalled that refurb up - all I can say is yikes!!

So, the 911S i've linked to above - good buy? Autofarm suggest that the big stuff has been done and it's just a case of getting it finished correctly.

It says POA - anyone know how much it is?
