So
GT Classics
is now listing [for the first time?] the next Porsche classic...Dan - you made a wise buy :wink:
Thanks Ade..

I am not one to argue with a company who know there Porsche's, and if people want to think there not going to be a classic.. Thats there call..(they must know more than GT Classics)

The question should be... did they buy the right car ? :wink:
<runsawayfast>

MK1 - Hand built - Porsche lost Money on every car - Accountant's were not involved in the design or build - Limited numbers......................

Sounds like the classic 993 arguement - don't tell me Mk I GT3 owners are going to join in on the side of the righteous from now on ! :wink:

May I just say that GT classics have had and sold both mk1 and mk2 GT3s in the past. I'd contacted them when I was looking for a mk1 and they encouraged me to buy a mk2 that they had.

Anyway, back to talking about how immeasurably fantastic the mk1 is......

Anything at Specialist Cars is an appreciating classic... now there's a lot who know how to charge.

Shirleys at Meriden have had a Mk 1 GT3 CS (press car) for sale for over a year now which has been marked back by quite a few £££. Looks a nice car to me. Surely a good buy for someone if the price was right?

Probably is a good car but buyers (inc me at one point) are scared that it has had the wheels driven off it from new by over zealous and non mechanically sympathetic journalists and motor testers.

My 3 has done a few trackdays and that's fine but knowing that the shirley's car has done a good few months doing 0-60, 0-100, 0-100-0, top speed, lap times etc. etc. is different.

How do you quantify the 'right' price for such a car? I say £40k tops.

Sorry, it appears that my last post didn't really talk up the values of mk1s at all so here's a couple of examples of how these are appreciating classics......

I didn't know Mk1 GT3 cars were handbuilt - is that engine, gearbox and body then? How did the Mk2 differ (aside from different spoilers)? 3.8 litre engine?

The Mk1 GT3 was the last hand built production Porsche built out of the motorsport factory at Weissach.

The Mk2 retained a 3.6 lump (albeit slightly different producing 381hp), and it was made on the normal production line alongside all other Porsches. The Mk2 has a higher quality fit and finish, although that was one of the primary objectives of Porsche when they made the facelift 996.
