Tyre sizes

Another question for the brainstrust!

Now that Glenn Mc sorted out where my wheels came from, I will need to fit some new rubber once I have the replacements. So question is what width and ratio?

The rims are 19" x 10", the handbook says 265x35 but thats for 18" rims, it currently has 265x 30 Kumho's (fitted by a cheapskate previous owner) but they are too narrow and do not protect the rim edges.

My local wicked wheels guy says they should be shod with 285x30s.

What do the experts think?

Confused of Dorking :?

Normal tyre size on an 18x10 wheel is 285/30-18.

285s are the correct width on a 10" wide wheel, but you will probably want to go down one profile to maintain the same rolling radius as on the 18" wheel. So I suspect it's 285/25-19 that you might be looking for.

Upsize diameter by one, downsize profile by one.

Just jumping onto the back of this thread.

I have been offered a set of MPS2's originally for a GT2. Fronts are the same as mine but the rears are 315's as opposed to the normal 295's I have.

Would the 315's fit on the standard 996tt rim and if so what would the effect on handling be?

Dave - the 315s need a wider rim (12"). The 11" rim is too narrow for the 315 tyre and the tyre, if it can be mounted, will be subject to quite a bit of unwanted sidewall flex. I wouldn't do it when trying to lay down 450bhp.

Thanks Ade. I will stick to standard :D

PS Good to see you and Mini me yesterday
