997 GT3 RS results by German Autosport

Some results from the German AutoSport magazin on the 997 GT3 RS.

Not much over the 996and the ring times are a surprise.

For comparsion:Hockenheim:997 GT3 RS: 1.11,1 min997 GT3: 1.11,7 min996 GT3 RS: 1.11,8 minNordschleife:997 GT3 RS: 7:48 min997 GT3 : 7:48 min996 GT3 RS: 7:47 minTimes 0-200 km/h and 200-0 km/h997 GT3 RS: 18,9 sec997 GT3: 18,6 sec996 GT3 RS: 18,2 sec

g-Force: all cars reached 1,3 g36 m Slalom:both 997 did 141 km/hWet-Hanlding:997 GT3 is slightly bettter.

Conclusion : Does Porsche needs to work harder on their products? new 997GT3, GT3RS, appear to offer minimal progress in an environment of rapidly improving competitors, of course they are all still top of the class which suggest the modern limits are already being reached ?

In the hands of a highly skilled and capable driver, both cars are probably equally fast producing the numbers above.

But I think it's when you factor in a less-skilled driver that the differences become more apparent. Following the 997GT3 around both Brands and also Silverstone, the new car looks really stable and planted - more so than any 996 variant. I think this is a combination of the electronic dampers and also the wider track that has given the car greater stability through the twisty stuff. In short, it's easier to drive very fast because the new car helps the driver more.

Engine wise, the new engine pulls very hard at the top top end, but it's not much stronger than the old engine through the low/mid range. For reference, a Manthey'd 996GT3 engine pulls identical numbers to a Revo mapped 997GT3RS up until the 6500rpm mark. I think this shows that the 3.6 engine is already very close to being fully maxed out.

The 3.8 997RSR engine must be very very special and would almost certainly be worth the price of admission (if it ever makes it to the road car).

IMHO the 997 GT3 RS's are quicker more of the time and enables a driver to get closer to those times where such a lap in a 996 GT3 RS would be much braver

that list is so wrong. it ignores the infamous 7:56 the Mk1 GT3 did as the world's first sub-8min production car 'Ring lapper :roll:

The most important factor for fast laptimes is tires, so without knowing that kind of tires the lap times were made, makes it difficult to compare them. There are many seconds difference on a Nürburgring lap with normal road tires and with road legal race tires.

The most impressive time on that whole list is from virtually the cheapest car on it.

M3 CSL wiping the floor with cars 2 and 3 times the cost, or 6 times in the case of the SLR

its called the sphincter factor!

At Oulton (my RS's first outing) my phincter factor will be quite low, no usual Poon gung-ho grassy moments for moi!
