So the early 997's had the same engine as the late 997 I think. At what point did the engine need half as much maintenance?
I'll still do mine annually but I'm curious how one year the engine can change so much.

Model Year 2004.

Sure I understand that but I'm thinking did they increase the oil capacity to 20l or something? Or maybe the <2004 intervals are a little conservative.

Like I say I'm not particularly bothered but I'd imagine they realised they didn't need to service it as much as they originally said.

Well, irrespective of what the OPC said - I have mine serviced every year on the anniversary - and I wouldn't buy a car that hadn't.

Just my pov

No change in oil capacity, still 8.25 litres.

Oil technologies (introduction of Long Life) have moved on since the initial service schedule was defined, you can see all the major manufacturers moving to 20-25k. Cars nowadays are becoming more and more self-diagnostic and as such service themselves appropriately, by using the correct quality of oil the life of this consumable can be extended.

Feel happy in that servicing a car after 12k (or 12 months) is giving your car an 'early bath'.
