Porsche offerings rebuil;d exchange engines etc.. between £8-£10K or alternatively Autofarm Silsleve which gives the option for more cc's and power.. www.autofarm.co.uk/engines/htm.Hope you find something nice..
Has one one had this done ? (4.0 996 - )

And what is the cost of the Silsleve converstion ?

think Autofarm charge £8k+ for it

4.0l conversion is only possible on the 3.6 engines. It is 3.8 for the 3.4l engines.

Now considering importing from DE as another avenue.. it must be time for another holiday by now!! :)

Seriously though - it seems VAT & duty don't apply to a used DE import which bodes well for the well worn wallet. The prices from a DE OPC also seem to be circa £3k less on a like-for-like model.

The lengths people go to get into a 911!!

O.

- Saying that... 3.8 996 -
That must give it 340 bhp ?

Unlikely as the current 3.8 only gives our 355bhp.

SILSLEVE Pricing as follows

http://www.autofarm.co.uk/new.php3/silsleevepricing.html

They also do many other pseudo rectifications...

Silsleve rebuilt engines come with, (where relevant)
Silsleeve rebuilt cylinder block
New piston rings for the Nikasil bores
Modified intermediate shaft (for pre-2001 engines)
The latest 997 intermediate shaft (for 2002-on engines)
Updated intermediate shaft chain tensioner
New Variocam chain guides
The latest Variocam solenoids
Cylinder heads and valves reconditioned as necessary back to manufacturer's tolerances
All new main and big-end bearings and big-end bolts
All 24 new cylinder head to crank carrier bolts
All of the latest seals (including the RMS) and gaskets
All other wear items, e.g. chain guides, checked and replaced as necessary
An ECU remap for oversize engines
Pistons are replaced only if necessary (rarely needed); otherwise the original items are simply fitted with new rings to the correct specification.

Many years ago when I was a young and keen Automotive Engineer (born & bred in Coventry) I was hooked on Imps (remember the old Hillman Imp !!) Ironically with the engine also in the wrong place too they also experienced similar engine problems mostly due to warping heads and over heating. Several engine tuning houses did similar mods to the Silsleve which increased cc's, power and reliabilty of a lightweight engine .. remember in late 60's and 70's 1100 cc imp engines could make 110bhp very reliably reving to 10,000 rmp.. Good old Greetham Engineering pioneered such developments with using them on hydroplanes.. Not bad for a Coventry Climax Firepump Engine...

Make it worth looking for a 996 with a blown engine as a project ????

Good luck.. I too wouldn't bring a LHD car to the UK they are too fast NOT to be able to see when to overtake... unless you rig up some mirrors or forward facing cameras !!! Aghh..
