Guys...I keep having the smallest of the 3 drive belts (the one in the middle) burn out. Usually a few minutes after setting off - just as car is warming up.

An OPC and a leading specialist independent have both tried to fix the problem, without success. Has anyone else had this problem? any ideas? And who would you recommend in the Oxford area (I'm new to it) to service/maintain the car?

Many thanks

GJL, that's very strange indeed...

have you tried Wright tune or autofarm who specialise in older 911's ?

Brilliant ...I'll try Autofarm. Thanks for the tip. If anyone else has had this problem and got any ideas I'd be very grateful.

Alternator seizing up?

There are 3 belts
fan
alternator
aircon compressor

or perhaps this applies....

Caution do not use aftermarket belts....

When fitting a new or replacing an existing belt be sure to observe the correct tensioning sequence in order to avoid any loss of belt tension during normal operation.

If fitting a new belt fit a new fan belt AND new alternator belt.

OLD AND NEW BELTS HAVE DIFFERING TENSIONING REQUIREMENTS

When fitting the belts a BELT TENSIONING TOOL IS USED!!

porsche modified the pulleys on this model and you did not mention if the previous attempts to fix the fault include the fitting of the 2 pulley halves.

Try this first and also the belt for alternator is different from manual and tip make sure you use the right one.

Just doing the belts on mine at the moment (fan belt packed up, alternator and ac belts looking distinctly tired).

The Alternator and Fan belt are the same part number - if the alternator had seized would this light up an idiot light on the dash? If the pulley needs re-shimming, could this be causing belt failure. Sorry, I'm asking more uestions than I'm answering - I'll stop now - good luck, keep us posted.
