Just bought my first one.... 996 C4 Cab Tip. Anyone know an easy solution to the storage of a hard top? How easy is it to take on and off? Can I get a dealer to do this and store the roof at reasonable cost?

Thanks for the swift reply. We do have a garage which, if the truth be known, the poor thing probably wont ever get into. Room to mount some brackets on the wall though or even hung from the ceiling as about to put new ceiling into it and decorate etc.

Is it a DIY job at home? The roof I mean, not drilling some brackets into the wall.

It's a real pain in the ass....

The Porsche solution is a wheelable trolley iirc...

I got my father in law to make a bracket to hang mine on the Garage wall.



I have heard of OPC storing them for small fees, but not sure how true this is...

Other than that, one of these storage firms maybe.

BMW used to have a ceiling mounted one, it was pulley secured so made the attaching of the roof easier. I'll have to check whether it's still available in their catalogue.

My brother -in-law made me a stand for mine - the OPC one looked a bit flimsy to me. Mine just sits in the garage, but the stand could be wall mounted if you wanted.

I had the BMW winch system for my M3 Cab. It fits into the roof rack mounting points on the hard top.

I dont know if it could be adapted to suit a porsche, but i still have it if anybody is interested and wants to try it.

But a problem if you have automated doors as most operators are ceiling hung over the car position .... as I found out when transferring our roof box hoist. :(

Thanks for your help.

We have a garage and a loft that the roof can go into. How easy is it truly? I am intending on keeping the soft top on for 11/12ths of the year as heated seats etc. However, occasionally parking in London, especially over winter months so any help appreciated.
