I have these 4 weird slots just behind my handbrake. they pop up when you press the button. Can't for the life of me work out what they're for

Easy to remove, screw in the bottom out it comes, direct replacements with storage, you can chose available on ebay.

cassettes? que? you mean like beta max? :?

I was going to ask a seroius question eventualy but daz has already answered it.

I've never actually owned a single cassette, let alone 4. Can I get a CD one? or maybe just a big dep tray thing? I'll check e-bay out

This is where you put the fuel cells for the flux capacitator, if fitted. Whilst being excellent for time travel, they were difficult to maintain and most 964 owners had them removed and replaced under warranty with a conventional flat-6 power plant.

Most owners left the fuel cell compartment in as they were also useful for keeping tapes in.

Assuming you do not have a flux capacitator or a cassete player, you can take it out and replace it with a storage bin, cup holder or CD holder - see Type 911 for more info.
