Hi all

Picked up the 997 S from Dave Friday and am very pleased with the condition.

It goes very well and the interior is so far distanced from my old 993.

One question though for any 2004 owners is as follows, when i start the engine from cold the exhaust sounds very clattery (at least i think its the exhaust) but soon settles down when warming through - any thoughts??

one other thing is it can be awkward to execute a smooth gear change with what feels like a bit of a bump or take up in the drivetrain.

I am still getting used to it, but the 993 was smoother

The gear change into first is rough for the first thousand or so miles! I was very annoyed how hard it was at first and actually went back to the dealer! But it soon loosened up and right now on the 997 I have got (basalt black) the gear change is as smooth as a HOT KNIFE THROUGH BUTTER!!!!

Have done the annoying running in for several Porsches in me time, all I can tell you is that with the 996 and 997 especially they really do change a lot at 3,000 miles and then again at around 10,000 miles!

Out of interest, what colour and specs did you get?

We don't believe you have a car unless we see some carporn 'photos' that is - right here!

Hi again

Into 1st is no probs. The car just bumps a bit, a bit like my old 964 when the dual mass flywheel was playing up. As i say it just feels a bit like slack being taken up.

997s

silver, bose, chrono, design 90 (i think!) PCM, sport seats, sun roof, black leather, auto dimming mirrors. Its gorgeous. I may get a mech to have a go (supervised!!) 40000 Km so well run in.

I am currently in Holland with the car but will be travelling down to France (home) soon.

I have heard there have been numerous problems like what you describe with the sports short shifter - is your car fitted with it?

errrrrr, dunno - how embarrassing! 40K on a 2004 is not too bad i thought.

i have found a way to replicate the "fault"

If stationary (or i assume moving).

Clutch in - select 1st.

Do not release clutch but return to neutral.

Release clutch. There is a definate "bump" from what appears to be the rear end, you can feel it rather than hear it but its definately there.

Any clues?

it gets weird now.

Just driven the car and sometimes its lumpy with the "bump" and others it is super smooth..... :?

Will be dropping it into Porsche to be checked here in Eindhoven - but its a bit weird.
