Hi

I have an 02 Carrera which I bought 3 months ago from an OPC.

It has done 40k miles and I went to top up the oil when I discovered some brown gunk at the mouth of the filler cap. The coolant is a khaki colour.

I think there is some mixing of oil and coolant. I have a warranty as its an approved car from an OPC. I am worried whether the dealer will give me hassle and find some clause in the warranty that will allow them to wriggle out.

Does anyone else have similar experience?

I will be calling the dealer this morning and will let you know the outcome.

This is normal. Tends to happen more when the car not used much or when it's only used for short journies.

Not sure about the coolant - take it back and get it checked - they shouldn't give you any problems.

Let us know what happens.

Hi Again

Just been told by an OPC that the "muck" around the filler neck is nothing to worry about as it is formed by condensation.

There is none in the coolant although its discoloured. I will keep an eye on it.

Can get on with my life for the time being.

See nothing to worry about! :D
You have got a warranty though - haven't you?

yes, I have the 1 year approved used warranty- but am wary of what is not covered although on the face of it looks comprehensive.

would a head gasket/cylinder leak issue be covered?

Asim,

As has been mentioned it is the build up of condensation due to short runs that causes the mayonnaise type deposit

Not having the problem anymore - 8000 (mostly happy) miles in five months have sorted it out. Also the enigine doesn't seem to be burning oil as quickly now - haven't had to top it up for the last two months.
