Aero Kit or not (996 C4) First buy...

Just a quick opinion poll...

Looking to buy my first 996 and looking at a C2 in silver without the Aero Kit and a Lapis blue C4 with the Aero Kit.

Both comparable cars in terms of price and spec, but cannot make my mind up about the Aero Kit... is it too bling?

Will I miss the cool rear spoiler lift if I have the Aero Kit... does it affect resale prices in 3-4 years time...

Views/opinions/flamings welcome ;)

Welcome Iain!

I think the aerokit makes the 996 look more aggressive, and looks really good, but it might be considered a bit "wannabee GT3".

I don't suppose there will be much difference in price- go with what you like best.

I personally find the aerokitted cars more appealing.

Good luck!

Robert.

Thanks Robert :)

I also like the look of the Cobalt Blue C4 at Stirlings. I like something a little different, but since this will be my first foray to the dark side (I have owned Lotus Elises & Exiges for the last 6 years), I need to be sure I am buying with at least part of my head instead of all of my heart ... you know what I mean

Cheers :)

what year are the cars ?

and mk1 996 pre 2001 IMHO looks better with the kit.. although they both look good

and they do help the value of the car in the same way you pay some extra for it and in view of the volume of 996's out there, something different is always good..

and nothing wrong with a car with an aero kit from another car, as a lot of people do it 993 and 997 et al !

Sundeep

The C4 tiptronic S in Lapis with the Aero Kit is a 2001 Y plate.

The (now blue, not silver..) C4 at Stirlings is a 1999 T.

Both great looking cars, similar money, similar mileage, but very different to look at.
The C4 tip has later style exhaust tips I think (almost like an outline of a figure of eight??.. or a silhouette of a snowman :D) Any ideas if this was a factory option of aftermarket?

Cobalt Blue is a very nice colour for a non-turbo and quite rare... so I can understand why the price reflects this...

Manual v Tiptronic are very different cars..... more of a major choice ?

Hi Iain

If this is what they look like then they are factory option

That's the ones, glad to know they were a factory option not some dodgy aftermarket pimp

Going to make sure it has had the 111pt check and will come with a Porsche 12 month warranty (no problem with Stirlings as they do this with all their cars).

I have heard a lot of talk of RMS (hears the nods and sharp intakes of breath..) - what is it??

RMS = rear main seal. Basically, an oil leak. Affects many water cooled (not turbo or GT3 as different block) Porsches. Varies in seriousness, from a few spots on the garage floor upwards so doesn't always need attending to immediately. A bit of a ballsache to fix as it is a clutch out job, costs around £400-£500 to fix at a specialist so not such a big deal really.

OK, thanks - I guess make sure the car comes with a warranty (12 month Porsche) and keep renewing it until the car is 9 years old... :)
