40th Anniversary Edition 996

Hi All,

I just this week became the proud owner of a 04 Plate Anniversary edition 996, its my first Porsche and I must admit to not being super knowledgeable on the brand. I am a petrol head but never paid much attention to the changing 911 lineup over the years (993, 996 etc).

I bought the car from JCT 600 so am aware I will have paid full whack for it and I dont mind that but wondered if there are any options it doesnt have that would really help it come resale (or for my enjoyment of it).

The car doesnt have sat nav and I am wondering how much of a difference this will make?

I am also wondering how much the whole limited edition thing is worth either as a premium over a similarly equipped 996 at resale or simply helping to sell the car.

It currently has 4,500 miles, 1 owner (now 2) and of course full PSH and warranty.

Have to say Porsche did a wonderful job with the colour combo, the dark grey (almost black) leather looks wonderful on the seats and dash and contrasts well with the suede(?) rooflining.

One last question, will retrofitting any other parts (interior or exterior) hurt the cars value?? was considering a carbon fibre interior.

Tim

ps. how much is it to retrofit the sat nav??

Welcome Tim but....

Bloody hell, you've only just bought it & you're worrying about resale :)

i think SatNav has been discussed here before & there is no practical/economic way to retrofit the factory installation. Others will disagree but personally i don't think SatNav is a sales killer on a 911.

Long term an anniversary edition will carry a premium to a standard car, probably more down to the more powerful engine. Though you probably won't recover the premium the OPC took from you if you paid the asking price.

Retrofitting a CF interior is a very pricey business. A full CF job could be 4k, which you will never recover on resale.

Leave the car as is if resale is a concern, it's a great car in that finish, you'll love it.

Enjoy the car as it is, don't waste your money on cosmetic mods.

Enjoy the forum, there's a good bunch here, who will tell you it as it is.

sat nav retro fit. . . . the latest Becker Pro High Speed 7945 or 7949

the porsche look single din unit, rather than the full screen that doesn't actually work well... a modern must !

Congrats! I had the pleasure of 4 hours in a Anniversary edition 996 on a very long track in Japan! I did everything you probably wouldn't do : ) It was truly awesome! Lovely car, great exterior and interior colour!! Leave it as it is! I wouldn't buy a limited car thats been played around with. Did you get the leather luggage cases? If not, wouldn't be a bad addition.

Wow thanks for all the feedback.

Nope I didnt get the luggage the first owner kept em apparently (annoyed about that) and even though the dealership has said they will contact to buy em back (at a cost probably) I will have to wait and see.

My other car, soon to be sold, is a 02 M3 Cab and i cant say I've noticed much diff in outright performance but the 996 couldnt feel more different to drive. I spent the first day over steering it all the time but am trying to teach myself to relax a little and just listen to the feedback.

Interestingly one of the wheels was marked and the dealership had to order in the special chrome paint for it (i thought it was just a higly polished alloy..). The paint costs 300 quid a LITRE!! am going to buy whats left of the paint off them in case of further accidents.

One thing I do know, its really nice not to have to put up with the ''oh youve got a drug dealers car'' comments of the M3, as much as i love its fantastic engine.

Now I just need to learn to drive it properly but seeing as I bought it to use every day (not a toy) it shouldnt take too long :)

Hi,

I also have the pleasure owning a 40th Anniversary, plate number 0568. Great car isn't it?

Could you please check if there is a third radiator in yours?

Thanks

third radiator??

Hmm where should I look ? :)

Sadly my new contract is in the City and I am now faced with the decision as to whether I really want to pay to keep the car in underground storage for 12 months (all the time making the finance and Insurance payments of course) or sell it on and be car less for a year.../sigh

Was expecting to keep working where I was and enjoy the commute each day.

That's a real shame - do don't see many 40th cars around, I bet it would be difficult to find another one in a years time. Hope it all works out though!

i dont think you can fit the becker units to post 2003 cars as they use 'most' fibre optic technology

but would be happy to be proved wrong
