Hello,

right I'm in the process of buying (hopefully) a nice 911 996 c2.

Had a 111 check carried out by Porsche on the basis of taking out a 1 year warranty and they came back with three main points

1)cam covers leaking - I checked under the car myself and there is a small amount of left over oil, but its not pooring out or anything like that. Porsche quoted £500 to fix

2) Fault in Management system - needs a new MAF - Porsche quoted £400 to fix, I've changed a MAF before and they're a doddle to change, is the MAF easy to get to?

3) Poly Belt (alternator belt) tensioner noisy - Porsche quoted £160 to fix.

I will be obviously negotiating price with the owner but my question is in terms of worth getting the warranty?

Not been too pleased with the porsche garages I've phoned around, generally seem unfriendly and unhelpful.

This leads me to a question, the car is a 98 and hence only 1 year of warranty can be put on the car. Is the warranty worth it? i'll only be doing 6000 miles a year.

I know its like asking about how long is a piece of string? but just wondering if you would be worried by the porsches findings?

ps: car has got 25k miles on it from new and looks in great condition to me.

IMHO, yes, put one year on it,

Any big things that are going to go wrong are likley to happen in the 1 st year of your ownership.

i take it the OPC have to rectify the faults before it will get covered or can any specialist be used???

Problem is you only have 1 week from the time of the inspection to take out the warranty! So usually there is not enough time to get it to a indy.

okay, regained my senses again.

yes I will be getting a 1 year warranty, i'll let you know how it goes with the current owner. If it goes ok I'll be picking it up tomorrow. Keep your fingers crossed!!

I have 993 with an OPC warranty the passenger window went down and would not go back up. OPC said that the sound proofing in the door had fallen into the regulator therfore the fault was age related hence 600 quid bill.I rang PGB and they said sorry but it wasnt coverd. my point was that they know how old the cars are when they inspect them make you do all work that needs to be done then charge 700 quid but dont want to stnd the cost of the repair. IFthe car was say 3 years old and the same thing happens what excuse can they then use Good luck anyhow
