996 Child Seats

Congratulations Walt! Happy days...

Anyway, my suggestion is this- get a rear facing seat and place in the front seat. I would be surprised if you can find a rear facing seat which fits in the back seat of a 993 but I may stand corrected.

Speak to your local OPC (or indeed specialist) who can install a gadget which fits under the front seat and disables the airbag when a child seat is fitted. It isn't particularly expensive.

Once nipper gets older, there are a few forward facing seats which fit in the back- you will need to fit an extended rear seat belt which is easy.

Cabrio might muddy the water a bit as the rear seats are slightly different compared to the coupe IIRC.

Also worth speaking to Quick Fit SBS who have some expertise in recommending kiddy seats for 911s... website is under construction currently.

Worth persevering as 911s are great family cars!

I think the problem is not getting the seat to fit but getting the seatbelt long enough to go round the seat. You'll almost certainly have to change the seat belt to a longer one. You can do it yourself quite easily. The passenger seat will have to be push all the way forward so the Mrs will be squashed anyway. We just waited till the little one was big enough to sit on a forward facing one, then it's much easier. You'll still need the longer seatbelt though. The Prosche Prince for 993 with the narrow base (I don't think they sell them any more, so try e-bay etc) fits quite well.
I use a Porsche Prince for my 3 yr old and it works well. Worth seeing if your OPC can get hold of one for the future, or try PCT
www.pctcars.co.uk

Failing that, I saw a seat called a Romer Prince at a Mazda dealer at the w/e which looked exactly the same and I dare say cheaper as it doesn't have the Porsche badge...

was trying to remember the maker of the Porsche Prince and you've just reminded me. It is actually Romer. You can just order it from Germany for a fraction of the price Porsche charges.

I spoke to PCT a while back, the new "Prince" is for 996 on, so base is prob too wide for 993 rear, but I didn't actually go and see it so not 100%.

Congrats, excellent choice in new family members, although one of them will be considerably more grief than the other :) Hopefully only one should cause sleepless nights, and a Porsche doesn't puke down your back at 3 in the morning, oh happy days he he.

Would be amazed if you can get a rear facing in the back of a 993.

Re Porsche Prince, they sell them any more, Mercedes sell exactly the same thing, but with Merc on it for £90, so a lot cheaper than the P. version. Baby will need to be about 9 months old though, they do sit awfully upright in it, but they work.

OPC charge for airbag deactivator on 996 fully fitted - £ 220.00 - its about £ 90.00 for the part and a thousand pounds an hour for labour/coffee drinking !!!

Check your seatbelt length before you part with cash though. Maxi Cosi Cabrio is probably the no1 selling newborn/infant seat and it only just fits with seat back almost flat and seat travel as far back as it can go. My argument at the moment is that she'll want some snooze/battery re-charge/peace and quiet time to herself and we can be Captain amicable and take the little tike out for a spin for an hour or so.

James clearly loves the C4S as within minutes of pulling away, he's relaxed as a relaxed thing and sleeping like a ...........well sleeping like a baby actually :D

B the way, slightly

how are all the iccle 911 ers that appeared through november december and january?

Little Olivia is doing fine - growing fast and eating everything in sight, she is looking forward to her first road trip to Ruf :D
(Oh YEAH !!!!), followed by a trip to see Granny and Grandad in the UK at Easter.................. yes i already have the ear plugs at the ready.

She is ok in the car for about an hour, then all hell breaks loose...........still its only a 12 hours drive............

James pretty much the same. Just over 12 weeks old - now 14lb 3oz so his appetite is ok!!!! very chilled out fella. Havent been on a car journey over an hour but if we're on one of Sara's shopping trips to Bluewater, he'll stay kipping for the journey there and back plus 2-3 hours shopping. I'm trying to find a pram big enough so I can do the same as it looks the only way to deal with shopping.

Jenny is good, gaining wt well, and now she actually looks like a normal size baby! She's been in the 993 a couple of times now but she still prefers a yellow RS though! Tried to fit the Mai Cosi in the back, even the longer seatbelt is not quite long enough to go round, might have a little fiddle again sometime to see if it fits.

Congrats sir - and no reason why you cant have two seats in the back!!

Definitely easier once they are toddlers as my daughters who are 17 months apart can atest. They went from sc targa to 964 cab to 993 cab to the new one with no worries
