Servicing Question

as the car gets older the less interesting it is to have opc stamps, I'd prefer to see a solid independent who knows and understands the older car.

I would agree with Martyn1 but as he says it should be "a solid independent". Meaning an independent who is well known and an acknowledged expert of the model concerned - not a mate, no matter how expert and knowledgeable he (or she) might be!

Well I'm more than happy to take my turbo to a local mixed marque garage that gives it 100% dedication and care - finding faults that both porsche specialists and OPC's have left off the list. I also do a lot of things myself - if it puts people off buying it if I ever come to sell then its there loss, as I want the car perfect for me, not what someone elses perceives to be perfect (full OPC history, loads of things neglected as is so often the case).

Darren, at the end of the day you're making a financial decision - it's unlikely your car will achieve a premium for having a full OPC history, so let's presume your car is suddenly worth £3,000 les, you're going to save that in servicing costs over the next couple of years anyway. Any propper buyer would have the car looked at and see the car is good, and base the purchase on that one would hope and not on who changed the oil four years ago.

Hi Darren,

I had a 993 for 2 and a half years and knew a brilliant mechanic who had previously worked at Lancaster Bow OPC before setting up on his own. The only reason I didn't use him is because he couldn't provide me with receipts or stamp the service book.

When a prospective buyer looks at your car in the future, seeing the name of a good independent such as JZ Machtech (who I have used for years) is a good selling point and for a 993 with 90k on the clock, I would use a good independent who are widely known.

Depending on where you live, I'm sure other guys on this forum can recommend one.
