A neighbour of mine got stung by the trick Warren mentioned. Not sure of the exact details but a guy offered overed over the odds on his Honda Civic Type R, saying it was to pay for exporting it to Mexico (some weird reason like it was to be used in a film or something!!). Said he worked for MIRA (the motor research place) and sent matey an actual MIRA cheque. Despite me telling him the whole thing stank of rip-off, he reckoned it was legit because of the official cheque. Matey banks the cheque, sorts of the shipping and waves goodbye to his car. Bank tries to clear the cheque and it turns out the chequebook was nicked a month previously from a MIRA office! Fortunately the container was stopped at the docks and he got his car back with nowt but dented pride!

Hi Gary

lhdporshce.com as far as i know only deal with cars from OPDs in Germany so not sure if a ppi is totaly necessary, would you need to do this if buying from an OPD over here?

i hav'nt!! should i when mine gets here??

I presently am waiting for my GT3 to arrive, from a German OPD through lhdporsche, i have been promised it will be here at the beginning of next week. In the meantime they have lent me a 996 3.4 C2 CAB which iv had now for almost 2 weeks it has 48k on the clock not sure if thats miles or kms but its a lhd, i am really impressed with this car and i asked how much it was up for and its about 28k! dont know if thats a good price or not for this model, but it seems you get a lot of car for the money.

Anyway i can recomend lhdporshce, if you have seen the site you know you can pay the dealer directly and see/drive/ppi what ever the car in Germany if you wish or you pay a 5% deposit to get the car here,if your not happy then you get your money back.

good luck...rob

All their cars come from OPC's with a Porsche warrentee so you have reasoable protection.

One of the golden rules when buying a Porsche: if it looks too good to be true, it almost certainly is.

Let a cool head guide your purchase.

Hi Gary

Just a quick look again on Mobile.de shows that the nearest to your car is EUR 55-60K for similar age/mileage. If that doesnt make you smell a 'scabbers' it ought to. I've just asked a couple of german guys who sit alongside me here if they've ever heard of this arrangement and they havent. Also E-bay are now the owners of Mobile.de. Added up, the seller is not the registered keeper, they want EUR 4,000 and then they bring it over for you to look at. You can then refuse it and ask for your EUR 4 grand back. So your decision is can you afford £2,700 not to see it again, or own a car thats probably stolen. No-one sells TT's for that money. I spent a year watching the price of them before opting for my 996 C4S. There would be a long line of takers at £18,400 - with me in the line. Incidentally, if you want any info on LHDporsche, PM me as I sourced my current through them.

Walk quickly away................................
