Hello all. New here, and looking for advice.

Looking to buy a facelift 320bhp 911. So i belive that is a 51 or newer. Never driven one, and intend to try, but wondered what thoughts people had on the following

1) C2 vs C4. I drive an S3 at present, and a TT before that. Love the stability that AWD gives. Am I likely to miss the stability of AWD with a C2? Or is it a non issue unless I am trying to kill myself round a track.

2) Coup vs Cab. I know that obviously a Coup has a more rigid body, but again unless I am going mad am I going to feel the diff? Also, what do you think of a hardtop on a Cab? My experiances on other cars is they dont really remove much road noise etc.

3) Main dealer vs specialist? Would look for a better price form an independant, and some of the ones on here seem to offer a quality service. But what is the downside?

4) Finally, if i was to pay £45k for a 02/52 car, what depeciation woudl i be looking at over 2 years? Would expect £7-8k, but happy to listen if you think i'm wrong.

Looking forwards to youe collective insight.

Thanks

Mark

Have to say guys, bit disapointed at the lack of response. Would have thought you would have all had thoughst/opinions on this. No?

Really hope someone can add some value here or I will have to do this all alone!!

Hi MarkyT,

As a start your best bet is probably to actually search this forum for some of the questions you've raised as most, if not all, have been discussed at length in the past and cover most of the decisions which need to be made when buying a 911!

So, as a recommendation, do some research first and then come back with slightly narrower list of questions which we can get our teeth into.

(Sorry if that's not directly being very helpful!)

Not gonna help you much on the 996 side sorry, Im a 993 owner, there are some 996 guys on here who should be more help.

But have you checked the buyers guides that are available? Peter Morgan does a range (Im guessing there is a 996 one). Only thing I know is that the 3.6 is a significantly better proposition to the 3.4

Coupe v Cab, has to come down to personal preference, I dont believe the weight will be noticeable in everyday driving, I guess if you plan to track it then Cab is out unless you fit a roll bar. Personally I drive a Targa, which is a reasonable compromise. You will get more wind noise with a Cab over a Targa over a Coupe of course.

C2 V C4, I prefer the C2 (less to go wrong) more ballsy style to the drive. I had a Audi TT a while back (225 bhp) and was very disappointed by the handling/feedback, dont know if that was the AWD or the poor chassis?

OPC V Independent? My advice buy from whoever has the car you want, if its a Specialist (or even private) you can always buy the warranty you’d get from a Dealer following the standard inspection that they insist on, and of course the OPC will be more expensive.
