Just for your info guys, Simon did a copy and paste of that from a piece on Fuchs website or something else - I can't remember exactly - I think some guy who has a PHD wrote it!

Per my earlier post, on Northway's advice I switched to Texaco Havoline when my car was last serviced. Previously on mobil 1 I was getting through 1 litre every 1500 miles, since swapping oil I've only had to top up 1/2 litre after 1750 miles, so it would appear that on the face of it, northway's advice was right, older engines need thicker oils = fewer leaks.

Porsche East London put in Esso Ultron 5w-40 (Porsche approved, fully Synthetic) into mine. They said they only use Mobil 1 for newer engines. Interestingly Esso/Mobil/Exxon are all the same company pretty much and when the 993 was new in the mid 90's and that "Porsche reccomends Mobil 1" sticker was applied in the engine, Mobil 1 was 5w-40 as well.
