The rear window heater on/off switch of my 996 has come out of it's socket.

Is this something I can remedy myself? Tips appreciated.

Well, thanks to Simon from PCT next to Autobahn in Coventry I have managed to fix this.

Place a flathead screwdriver under the left hand side console, underneath the cigarette lighter and undo this from it's clips. Gently pull it out and press the switch back into it's socket. Replace console into it's position.
