right then all of you audio masters...

the next stage of mod's begins for me and I need you advise !

now before you all say it, yes the sound track of the air cooled engine is great, but I can't send my entire life going up and down from 3000-6000rpm ! I have tried...

So I'm looking to finish upgrading my entire Car Audio system....

having had a quality Bose sound system in my last car, the 993 set up is well a bit weak, put it this way, what's in the mrs' VW polo is better !

I've already replaced my Porsche CR21 head unit with a Sat Nav Becker Traffic Pro which made a difference..

and I've just bought a sets of Infinity speakers (as they are one of the best) to replace the limited speakers that are fitted to my car.... JBL at the back and Phonocar up front !

So i've got a set of Infintity 6500CS component system speakers up front

and a pair of 6x4 (damn the rears are small) Infinity Refernce speakers up back..

Becker & Infinity a fine combo..... I could just leave it at that..... but better to finish the job properly !

so I'm stuck for a suitable Amplifier....?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

The only place I can see is the space under the passenger seat in order for fitting the amp... I thinking that this is where it is kept in such cars ?

as I do not want to put it in the boot up front as I do need all the boot space I can get.. and the space below the passenger seat is quite large...

but what to get..? and what will fit under the seat and be an audio match for the units...??

Option 1 : Get a Porcshe Amp, I know the 993 had some kind of Audio upgrade but I'm assuming that is a bit old now ??

but the 996 has a good DSP Porsche (by Becker! so ideal) Amp which is some kind of Media Oriented Systems Transport (MOST.. not sure what it is.. ???) but if it's the right Amp that will do ! not sure of the part number 996.645.331.00 or (oddly) 993.645.304.01

so don't mind getting this..assuming it fits under the passenger seat? but is this the right amp or critically are there better ones available ?

option 2 : Go aftermarket and get say a Pioneer or equivalent amp or who , etc

but this is where my audio knowledge is limited, I know very little about Car Amp's ! apart from Bose amp's are quite good ! as I experienced in my last car... so what's a good car amp brand ????

so what is a good small sized amp to get.. note a normal size amp is as big as the base of the boot, so far too big for going under the seat.....

I've had a look at the pioneer web-site (for starters, don't know if pioneer are any good either ?!) and they have loads of choices.. 4 channel (which I think my Becker head unit is 4 channel), multi channel, etc etc

but which one ! so if I know which one then I can pick one that fits !

????????

regards

buy a ferrari mate then all you will do is listen to the then put a sports exhaust on it and you wont want to get out of it

I seem to remember Rockford Fosgate used to make quality amps from back in the days when i was a touch more concerened - although if you fit a sports exhaust it really wont matter any more - maybe an alternative? ;)

I don’t think 911 drivers are very interested in ICE, I asked about ICE in a previous thread and got no replies.

I quite like the sound of my sports exhaust and often drive with the windows or sunroof open to get the full benefit of it, but there are times when I want to listen to music on those long boring motorway journeys stuck at 60mph.
My current ICE setup is very poor.
I like the mp3 head unit which is a hard disk based system which holds 40Gb of MP3s (every CD I have)

I think I need to get some new speakers as I suspect a previous owner has swapped the original Porsche fitted items in the front doors for something worse.
I am also thinking
of getting a Becker head unit and a new Densin MP3 unit to go in the boot/bonnet (or whatever it’s called).

Sundeep, where did you get the infinity speakers from?

The Becker unit is rated at 18watts per channel RMS, have you found it underpowered?

andy.. totally agree !

got the infinity speakers (top of the league that don't costs £000's!) off ebay, as for the Becker unit it was a hugh improvement over thr Porsche unit !

and would prob' cope very well with just speakers, but an Amp is really needed...

I may still look at trying to change the rears again, as 4x6 are just tiny ! but need to take the rear apart to see what can fit !

did post on the PCGB with again few responses.. but had this one...

I was looking recently at upgrading the sounds in my 964. I too have infinity components up front and yes they are one of the best. However even before i removed my rear seats i had disconected the rear speakers. Being an Essex boy, in my late teens i had alot of 'sounds' put into any vehicles i had and one thing i was also told by the professionals was only have mid-base and base sounds behind your ears. I would go with an aftermarket 4 channel amp under the passenger seat and adjust the crossovers on the rear outputs to send only the lower frequencies.

Sundeep,

Where are you based, I used to live in Edgware N LOndon and there is an Audio Specialist there, Kamar In Car Audio, the owner used to own (might still have, a very nice from new 993 C4S, all iced up, I used to take my 964 in for alarm stuff, his 993 was v,nice.

Ask for Martin 020 8952 1506

BTW he swears by Bostons (speakers) for a 911

Poon

cheers for that, I'll give them a call before I try Auto Audio down by Park Royal, who are like a posh version of west coast customs !

found out about them when I fried my phone..... only minor issue is that they all the high end stuff.....! at a price..

yeah, I know Auto Audio, they removed my car kit from my 964 for the bloke who bought it off me, he runs the fireplace shop next door!

found them abit too big and commercial for me, I prefer the smaller independent and personal touch.

Mind you Martin can be abrupt and to the point, he can come across as stroppy but that is just his way.

Try him anyway, the advantage is he knows his way around a 993!

cheers will give him a call......

as to find someone who does know their way around the inside wires of a 993 is very rare !

so just as well I've 'already' got the infinity speakers!

hi sundeep,

what was in a 993 of my mates was a genesis amp linked up to polk audio momo speakers and worked ouy v well. the guys who did the job it are mates of mine and are award winning and know their stuff (www.sim-ni.com). according to them its the only one that will go under that seat and i had no complaints with it! only snag is we're in londonderry, northern ireland but i know they deliver...

hope this helps

As mentioned in other threads, I have had all the audio system in my 996 replaced.

Even the top Porchse system is not very good and a component system is a big improvement.

Genesis make very good component and multi-channel amps.

Under the dashboard, passenger side is a good mounting location.

Koenig.
