Buying a daily driver

Hi all,

I'm a complete newbie to the site and hoping to get some advice on joining the heady world of Porscheownership.

In the next few weeks I'm hoping to buy my first 911. I'm after a daily driver (12-15k miles per year) and have about £18-20k to spend. So, what do you reckon is my best bet?

From the research I've done so far it seems that I could get a decent LHD import 993 for that sort of money which could serve me well - for example, there's a 1995 LHD graphite grey Carrera 4 with lots of toys on Autotrader (Lodge Lane Cars) right now for £17,500 which looks almost too good too be true.

My main concerns here are a) checking out the history of an imported car and b) whether there are any huge bills just around the corner which will bite me. So, I figure that if I take a specialist along for the viewing (any recommendations?) and have a 'slush fund' for repairs then I might be ok.

Am I barking up the wrong tree here or is this do-able?

Any and all advice greatly welcomed.

Its very doable - try someone like Peter Morgan who does a very detailed inspection.Read everything you can and ask as many questions as you want - if we know the answers we will tell you. a genuine import should have the german service book with it, but if you have it inspected properly then this will help to highlight any potential problems that might be around the corner. Good luck
