Hi.

I just spoke an independent dealer (well known specialist, north london) with regards getting a PPI done on a car I'm due to test drive on the w/e. This guy asserts pretty forcefully that they won't have a PPI done by 'AN other specialist' because 'nobody trusts each other up here'. Suggested I get an 'independent' PPI done by someone who isn't a dealer. Anyone else had this? Must admit I find it strange.

Very strange indeed - I think I can guess which dealer you must be talking about, but I've not heard of this problem before. In that case I suggest you use someone like Peter Morgan who advertises in Porsche Post / 911 Porsche World. Failing that if you want someone London based I'm sure Lawrence or Will at Chelsea Carrera (who look after my car) would be prepared to do an inspection 0207 6102326

The guy suggested Peter Morgan in fact - which I don't have a problem with. It could also be the case that there is indeed a lack of trust between competing specialists. I was under the impression that 'AN other' don't sell cars so only potential confilict of interest would be competition to earn revenues from servicing.

I think you've probably got it about right ! JZ don't sell cars and I know of a certain dealer in North London who is trying to get more work into his service department. I wonder who it could be ?????????

try Peter Tognola in Windsor,

he doesn' sell cars, just services them.

I don't know who the dealer is but does seem rather strange, i could understand possibly if the PPI people were selling cars as well, but if they don't whats his problem?

I think I was a little too quick on this one. After talking to them again they explained a little more and I can see their point. They were more than happy for an independent PPI but had concerns about the lack of objectivity displayed by a competitor. They were also very helpful indeed on the day I visited.
