4 Wheel Alignment

Hello

Fairly new to the 911 thing (just bought a 993 C2S) and wondered if anybody can offer an opion.

I've only done 600 miles in the car and think it requires a 4 wheel alignment check as it feels a little vague on turn in. Even if it doesn't need adjusting I whould like to have it checked just to be sure.

I was hoping to to take it to AMD in Biscester as they have worked on previous cars for me (not Porsches). Unfortunatly they don't seem very interested at the moment. So I am thinking of taking it to Camtune in Godalming (they are close to my work). Has anybody had any experience of their workshop services and in particular had a 4 wheel alignment set up done there?

Also, any advice as to what settings to go for (it has 18" Turbo Alloys and standard suspension, I think) i.e. standard or maybe the RS settings?

Cheers

Jonathan

Tyres.....

Take a look at the tyres first, you must have 'N' rated rubber, on the sidewall you should find a marking......N1, N2 N3 or N4 this is for Porsche approved tyres. Often owners overlook this and as a result a 911 can feel loose or unstable.

A porsche specialist should advise what settings to use once discussed with you.

Try Tognola Engineering, 32 Montague Road, Datchett, Berkshire, SL39DJ Tel:01753 545 053. Speak to Peter Tognola who is the undisputed king at this. They have their own 4 wheel alignment kit. He's serviced some of my Porsches in the past and I've always found him first rate.

Thanks CT993 (who ever u are) will talk to them.

Tyres - they are Conti sports all N1's. I had the rears put on when I bought the car and they have only done 600 miles. The fronts have loads of tread, but I can't be sure how old they are.

Having previously driven mainly front engine / front drive cars, I'm sure part of it is me having to get used to the new handeling characteristics.

Would still be interested to hear any opinions on Camtune's servicing facilities as they are very local to me and I would like to use them from a conveince point of view. The owner, John was helpful when I was looking for a car, even though I didn't end buying from him.

Jonathan,

Your luck's in. Buy a copy of January's 911 & Porsche World (on the shelves in your local news agent now). Page 50 there's a four page article on Camtune this month, might help you make your mind up about them...

Thanks, I read that yesterday.

Am still hoping for some first hand feed back from anybody that has used them.

Jonathon,

I've used Camtune for the past three years, previously for servicing my 944 Turbo, and I will continue to use them for my 993, although it has a full OPC service history to date.

I've always found Camtune do a first class job, are reasonably priced and most importantly know what they are talking about. Several times I've dropped in there at short notice and they've fixed minor problems or checked something out for me at no cost!

A friend of mine bought his 993 there a few years back and has continued to use them for servicing with no complaints.

They also offer a free courtesy car whilst yours is being worked on which is handy.

Give them or call or drop in and say hello to Tim or David, they're very friendly and helpful chaps.

p.s. I'm not on commission, just find them a good honest garage!

Thanks Alex

I've booked my car in with them to have a 4 wheel alignment set up done next week. They didn't mention the courtesy car when I booked, but this would be an added bonus.

Thanks Andy

Called them today - loan car no trouble. Great.

I notice u have changed/upgraded the sound system in your car. I have also been looking at Alpine head units and upgraded speakers. Did you do it yourself or have it fitted? If so, by who and are they reliable?

Thanks
Jonathan
