996 Child Seats

There have been a few posts on forward facing child seats for 993s, but I was wondering if anyone knew which child seats fit in the rear of a 996 (other than the Porsche Prince). We tried 2 different makes at the week-end and neither fitted properly. If I can't find one to fit I'm going to get ear-bashed by my wife to sell my (3 month old) car. Help please!!

Can I take it that nobody has a clue and pay a trip to my OPC and buy an official seat?

There are seats from porsche, best to use these, fit best. The new model looks rather fetching!

Thanks Noony, I took your advice and bought the Porsche Prince however I have to say I am not taken by its safeness or comfort for the child. These seats lack harnesses to hold the child in and rely upon a bolster in front of the chest held in place by the seat belts. As a result I went to Halfords to try and get a different make (they said they that none of the seats they supply would be safe in the back of a 996!!).

Now I know this forum is largely for petrolheads (no offence) but there must be others out there who want to carry there young child (safely) in the back of their car. So .... can anyone shed light on either alternative seats that fit the rear of a 996 or how they have found the Prince.

Thanks

some people have said that the Britax freeway can work in the back. I have one that looks like it would work in my SC if it had a three point belt. Might be worth a try. It does end up quite close to the seat in front though.

I also think that the Britax Freeway fits a 996, I was looking but both my kids are bigger enough to sit in the back using the standard belts now.

There's a 4S parked next to mine in the car park with one in the back, so I guess it works for him.

Thanks for that ... I tried 2 other Britax seats that most definately didn't fit so I'll give this one a go ...

Our esteemed forum owner, Phil, has the Porsche bolster seat in his 993, although he only recently bought it. Maybe he will chirp up with his impressions of it... Phil?

I'm not sure how different the seats are in the 996, but the Prince seat fits fine in my 993. As long as you feed both parts of the belt through the "block" then it's more than enough to hold everything in place. I was concerned that there were no chest straps, but the block comes right up to the top of his chest holding him firmly in place (he's 21 months). The rear belt will need extending soon though as it's really a little too tight.

Freddie,

Sorry to ambush your agony here, but you could be the man with the answers! I'm hoping to buy a 996 C2, but my wife is expecting our first child at the end of October (I know - most think I'm mad!!).

Anyway - knowing that it's probably not the most practical car in the world, one of our criteria is that at least a pram fits in the luggage compartment. I know there is a Porsche design one, but we're not rating it that highly.

Given that you're now looking for a child seat, does that mean you've managed it with a baby for the last couple of years??

If so - doe you have any suggestions for prams? Willing to remove the spare wheel as I'll have the Porsche assistance deal anyway.

Good luck with your search and any suggestions would be greatfully received!!

Cheers,

Scott

Our baby is only 7 months and about to migrate to a forward facing seat in a month or so (if I can get one better than the Porsche Prince, otherwise the Porsche Prince). As for pushchairs we bought a second one for when we use the Porsche (a McLaren Volo) as this fits on the rear shelf behind the back seats. Other than the Porsche pushchair I doubt you will find something to fit the boot (I spent ages on the same exercise to no avail).

So if I can resolve the child seat problem then the 996 is a v practical car for a family (hmmm ... not sure the wife would agree)!

Thanks for the info on the prams. You'd think pram manufacturers would be more mindful of prospective porsche owners!

Does the babyseat fit in the back of a 911 (or just in the front - if so, the deal could be dead in the water!)

Cheers

Scott

If anyone is interested - we have finally have found a pram that does fit in the luggage compartment of a 996 C2 - it's an "Aria" made by Mamas & Papas. Lightweight and folds up great!

How did you get on with the Pince seat?
Does it fit front and rear?
Is the Prince seat the only one the deactivates the front airbag?
