Rear spat/plastIcs hiding secret source of topsoil

I've just got around to removing my rear spats as part of the winter refurb of jacking points and sills and was astonished at the amount of soil behind them, I don't think they've been off in the cars 20 year life.

Luckily the inner sills are okay, just some light rust at the front end but I was dreading what I'd find given some of the photos I've seen on the web.

Any particular recommendations for waxing the sill cavity, I was thinking an aerosol Dintitrol ML as I don't have access to a compressor.

top soil

hi did the same last month, filled a small cardboard box, amazed at the amount, lucky all was solid, cleaned ,and waxoiled, happy with result, :thumb: elwyn

I used cavity wax. Bilt hamber stuff iirc. Aerosol which comes with a long straw and reaches almost right up the inner sill when going in from front and rear arches. I had to fabricate everything that you have pictured there. A serious amount of time and work.

Looks like your getting away in the nick of time. It pays to look at these things

Thanks Ned, I think it was your thread that scared me about what I'd find in there!

Good job. It might have scared you but at least your on it before it costs you a fortune. I'd say that's my good deed done for the day

Porsche underseal as I knew it does a great job. The crud you cleaned out holds the damp very effectively and if there are any damaged areas of underseal chances are that the damp will work it`s way in behind the crud acting as a reservoir for dampness..! It is ever a good idea to keep things clean. Once the underseal has been defeated by the action of grit blasting fired at it from the wheels, as in your pic of the edge of the wheel arches, it might be best to clean the area up paint on some rust treatment and use a spray can of underseal, followed up with a can of touch up of the appropriate colour, if possible it might be an idea to use products from the same manufacturer to avoid reaction of any one paint to another..?

Waxoyl used to supply a spray kit that consisted of a spray gun and flexible lance which was attached to the can containing the Waxoyl and which had a hand operated pump fitted to it, thus the container could be pressurised... Might be worth considering if still available..?
