997.1 Turbo tip engine cut out.

Not that it helps but the faults are a new one on me .. power pin and no but the other issues are so you have been a bit unlucky i feel .

May be a guess but it's likely accurate!

I was unlucky I guess but lucky I have D&G Porsche only 20 minutes away - they really are excellent.

I searched the forum when you first mentioned the pin and found a post from someone who did exactly what D&G did to solve the pin issue - they've even invested in a press solely to add eyes onto the original cable just for this issue so I'm guessing it happens fairly regularly.

A belated update.

First off, I've been quiet on the main boards about this bloody fault but I've been getting some great advice in PMs from Demort.

Briefly, after about a day of finally having the car sorted the same fault occurred (back in October - where has the time gone!!).

Luckily, this time the little misfire and myriad of fault lights occurred only yards from home. I got it started again and quickly shoved it back on my driveway. Locked it up and went back to the (almost 200,000 mile) Golf :x

Off it went back to my favourite Indy's who are probably sick of me by now but too polite to mention it...another few hours/days of fault finding and it started to look very much like an ECU/DME issue. Suspect spike when a certain recovery guy managed to get several large sparks when connecting/disconnecting the battery all the months ago.
The DME was removed and sent to a specialist for a remedy. DME returned a week or so later - no fault found. :x

A few weeks pass with the Indy scratching his head. Their suggestion - off to a trusted OPC with the latest diagnostics and (more importantly) access to the Porsche factory.

A few days pass where the OPC was chasing faults - module by module, the fault seemed to move on until it reached ........ the DME.

So, DME removed again and sent to their specialist. I could see exactly what was about to happen here....



And I was wrong. DME totally fried and not even accessible by their interogation software.
New DME it is then. Around £2200. Add that to all the other bits and pieces and the labour while they tried tracing the fault. Seats out, dashboard out, most of the interior out etc etc...this isn't going to be cheap but what was the other option? A £30K+ ornament? (Trust me, the thought crossed my mind).

I get a call late January to say it's all done and ready to be collected soon - just a few issues with keys not locking on the button. By this time I was fed up, arranged a lift to get the car and brought it home. Tom from OPC Teeside was excellent, explaining the process and was the one who did the majority of the work. Poor ***** - a tall lad like me but built bigger - his spine must be knackered after crawling around sorting this out over the weeks.

It was mentioned to me that the car operates fine (excepting the key issue - a loose arrangement was set up to pop in at a later date to sort this) but it seems a little 'laboured', not pulling as well as the numerous 997 turbos they've worked on over the years. The fuel was over 6 months old, the car hadn't been used properly for even longer and I still have that issue with boost I've mentioned some time ago in another thread.

Car home, thrilled to have it back (literally, it's spent more time at the Indy and OPC than it has on my drive just chasing two niggling faults). Everything crossed, after a couple of thousand miles the DME is behaving itself.

Before the world changed with Covid I had it serviced at D&G, they took a few minutes to sort the keys/locking/alarm issue - the PCM and dash display were doing weird things. Looks like the wrong model car had been coded! All sorted now.
The old Golf was due some TLC so a plan was hatched - the 997 needs pressure testing and final fix of boost issues so the Golf was left to be serviced, once done Id return with the 997 and swap over and the world would be a better place. Then lockdown!!

First world issues, a lot of people are going through hell at the moment and i'm not an arse ignoring everything because 'Porsche'. It's good to have it home, it's finally starting to look clean and there is light at the end of the tunnel - hopefully the turbo boost issues are relatively small as there are no fault lights or anything.
As a key worker I've also had the roads to myself while travelling to/from work so that's been rather different!

Finally, hats off to Demort, D&G Porsche and OPC Teesside - loving this car and time away from it makes it even better. Even if it is a Tip S :D
