Nice! looks like a good one, most definitely something I'd have gone to see if in the market, early car with kit etc and decent miles, you going for it?? _________________ Current cars

Thanks for the comments JM. I just do what we all do on here. Buy something half decent and tinker with it to bring it upto scratch. It’s all down to my mate Craig. It’s much more fun working in pairs or a group.
When I first saw the pics yesterday I thought that was your garage for a minute. Great space that isn’t it.
And yep I’d welcome a cover over winter and for longer stints. There’s something exciting about a car under a cover. Even when you know what it is.
That white one above looks lovely. I didn’t realise there was more than one.
Needs a new oil pressure sender though.

Car looking great JM.
Funny white wasn’t fashionable back then in the late 90s.

I like the kitted cars but on balance I prefer to own a 'below-the-radar' look of my black C2. Also helps it only cost me 11k!
I do keep looking at the lower end of the 6spd 993 market and wonder if I would prefer to build a CSR style early 3.4 sort the engine, suspension, etc for the same coin as a leggy 993.

I agree I get my brother involved too most of the time, we built our classic mini together took a while but was fun nonetheless, I wish that was my garage! It’s how I would have it, like a living room but furnished with cool bits of metal, I’m toying on getting something at the moment but space is an issue as I want the 996 to stay, we work with what we have got so not going to moan about it
Y2K- thanks, I like you and Mark wasn’t sure how many white examples produced or order shall I say, but let’s face it I’d still call it ‘one of the rare colours’ on a 996 even if 50-100 exist, still love to find out,
I love both a non and kitted c2/4 I do like the CSR styling and general build and spec so would be a cool way to mod a base C2 for sure, I’d still like a challenge of bringing a leggy 993 up to scratch too but the base is still double or more than the 996 is so I do believe the 996 has some way to come but not the heights of air cooled I expect, _________________ Current cars

Looks lovely. I think the 996 aero will be very sought after in time.
How did you get on with the E90 M3? I’ve considered trying one as an addition to my 996 turbo _________________ 2001 996 Turbo Manual

Cheers Mat59, It's a growing fan base for sure on all 996's but for me I was only looking for Aero Kitted ones and not too many to choose from when I was looking to come back,
Re the M3, I'v had 2 others in the past one coupe and one other saloon, this was my first DCT equip example though and I did love it, such a nice engine and practical being 5dr's, much nicer gearbox than my B8 RS4 I had in between, I have since sold the M3, I only had it for a short time but (other than the 911) isn't unusual for me!, I would go ahead and try one lots of car for the money a nice change from the 996 Turbo, N/A High revving, comfortable well spec'd last of the V8's, Make sure you check things like throttle actuators, Rod bearings have been mentioned its the IMS of the E90 range BMW! around 1200-1400 to have changed for new ones, not the end of the world it's just knowing when to make the change, I'v noticed a fair few on the market having had them done (most likely to help the sale?)
If you go for a saloon you will have a much more solid investment in my opinion, I got in and out of mine without a scratch both times with the saloon _________________ Current cars

Boring update but really just notes on what has been done, had loads of issues with a 'Knocking feel' through the wheel loads of trouble shooting (and spending unfortunately) brought it down to 'play' in the steering rack so after already spending £1400 on the first round I ended up spending a further £2150!
-New steering rack + Expensive Porsche pipes
-Anti roll bar bushes
-Drop links
-Track rod ends
and a load of other bits and bobs needed to get the job done,
So £3850 all in spent this month including other bits and bobs!
I ended up going for a drive Sunday to try forget how annoyed I was about the unexpected spend to get it sport on, but at least I know its sorted now and will be a plus point if ever sold.
I doubt I will do much more this side of xmas but drive it the odd day and want to get some use out of it when the weather is better and shows start coming up, _________________ Current cars

Evening all, Had a nice day detailing the 996 after using it for a few days but it's now going to most likely go away for xmas and back out on crisp dry days in the new year, I took a friend out for the first time and he was blown away at the noise this thing makes! It's louder than the PSE i had on my last one but not in a bad way It just sings that bit louder,
It's bitter sweet this post on what I was hoping to be a long standing car like my last one was and I searched months not knowing if I would find another close to my silver one but after being contacted I was completely blown away at this example, I'll get to the point of why its a very bitter post for me,
I had a long chat with my brother this evening, we are very close and have always tried to help each other out over the years, he has been in renting for many years paying more than double than me (I own a mortgaged house) he has a young family and his wife part time etc so never quite managing to save for a deposit as there is always something more important or urgent that wipes it away, so I felt I could really help him out with the money I have used over the years to buy the 996's added to some I have saved to get them onto the ladder, I feel If I don't help him now then he will just most likely be paying high rents for many more years.. It's not the end of the world and he of course will be paying me back once in and sorted, If I could think of another way I would, he is pretty shocked not only by my offer but the fact I could even part with this one! not to mention how much I have spent in the time I have had it but I wanted to make it 'right' for me to use, he was very much involved in the purchase having to drive me over to collect and joining me at shows and drives out with friends etc,
So although this isn't a for sale advert I do for now invite anyone potentially interested in talking to me about buying this example from me, If this goes I will have every intention of buying another 996 or 911 once my money is returned! If I find another way then It's staying with me,
I'm thinking of doing the wheel centre's Silver to really brighten everything and show off how clean he car is, _________________ Current cars

Wow, what an absolutely wonderful thing you are doing for your brother and his family, my hat`s off to you young man
I`m a true believer in karma and offering a helping hand to those that I can.
Once again, I`m amazed at the fantastic people involved in the Porsche community and in particular 911uk.
Good luck with your reluctant sale _________________ 1998 996.1 C2 3.4 with "Aerokit Cup"

It feels like the right thing to do and no one else is in the position to make the offer, to easy to just ignore and let them carry on, he has had to move twice in 2 years due to landlords selling so adds to the stress and expense,
Cheers for your kind and encouraging words
