996 C4S Purchase Help

Hi Phil

Re PSE vs Top Gear:

Switched off (if you have not seen it, the exhaust is switched off (quiet) or on (Loud or sport) with a dashboard switch), the TG is similar in sound to stock or PSE off.

Switched on, the TG is slightly louder, and raspier/rawer sound than PSE. All the additional noise comes above 3,000 rpm, so driving in "on mode" is not anti social/embarrassing! It is just great when you accelerate hard up to the red line.

Ultimately, I would agree that PSE sound slightly better, but for me was not worth the £3-£4k premium.

I would have either in preference to non switchable.

Re the red interior, I am always amazed that it causes such negative reaction. It is a nicer colour in the flesh, so I would recommend going to see it (or one like it), Once you have body coloured seatbacks/central console, grey over mats, and artic pack it does break up the colour.

Everyone who rode in/drove my car loved the colour. I see the same negative comments about the Tan leather, and again would far rather have that than black.

I'm thinking of selling mine as I'm not using it enough.

Purchased from 911 Virgin 12k miles and 4 years ago when it had a new clutch fitted prior to collection.

Black on black, Manuel, 87k miles, two sets of wheels, original 996 wheels and 18 inch Victor design Innsbruck 18"s in Porsche silver. and all the right bits and a car people know.

I also had the suspension overhauled and the brake calipers refurbished and repainted last year.

Low temp thermostat and run on millers 10w 50 nanotech, RSS engine mounts, centre console delete with GT3 RS Alcantara wheel and shifter.

Bose and hard backed sport seats as well.

Due a service and MOT which I will get done unless someone wants it as is for £20k.

Otherwise I'll get the service done and Mot and chuck it up for £22k in a couple of weeks.

Wow, so yours comes with a spanish waiter? I can see why you woud charge £22,000. That is a rare option! :)

Just updating the thread.

After viewing and test driving a few C4Ss last weekend i can say for sure i would really like one! I was surprised how they all still felt very solid and fun to drive. PSE is a must!

I have at least narrowed it down to either Seal Grey or Black but looking at all the adverts online, i cant work out if they are over priced or not moving due to the current times! Some have been for sale ages too.

All the ones i viewed had a full service history with most if not all the jobs done in the last 1-3 years.

They are not moving due to s combination of unrealistic price expectation and the current political and economic uncertainities.

Whichever car you decide on, my advice is always to pay the £300 or so for an independent pre purchase inspection with a horescope.

Not sure what your budget is, but this looks an interesting car... full rebuild, lots of other work and X51 which is rare. Priced fairly in my view considering the work done, and sold by a well-respected specialist. No affiliation other than they do my service work...

Quick update....

So i have placed a deposit on a very nice Black C4S with lots of history/checks and recent work being carried out.

Couple of little improvements i have asked already is to-

- Fit the 997 standard shifter, probably the one with the aluminium bushes.
- Bluetooth A2DP USB adapter

I have also been offered to extended the included warranty who is by https://www.autoguardwarranties.com/. Does anyone have any experience with these?

Lastly its booked in for a full GYEON - Q2 MOHS+ correction, so will post pictures up after this :)

Thanks,

Phil
