2006 Boxster gearbox issue?

Hi all, posting on behalf of my brother who's owned his boxster for about 8 months.
Seems to have developed a fault where at around 2000 RPM steady pace around 45 mph the revs increase by around 200rpm then drop again to 2000rpm.
It's been into an indi today who recon the entire valve set speed sensors and pressure sensors need replacing to guarantee a fix?

They've advised that porsche won't sell valves separately!

Anyone experienced a similar issue and managed to resolve without the need to re-morgag!

Cheers Lee.

It can also be the one way clutch in the torque convertor not locking up.

It's a difficult problem to diagnose .. torque convertor , valve body or brake bands inside the box can all cause issues .

Hi again Demort, thanks for reply, been told b6 an Indy that after checking you cant get individual components (like solenoids or control board) from PORSCHE and the only way they could guarantee a 100% fix is to replace the entire valve chest at a cost of 3.5k? on a 10k car it's not worth it?
Thought it strange they don't sell parts for a 2006 Boxster and yet I just replaced the control board in my. 2005 911?

Anyway do you feel it worth starting with the least costly item and going with trial and error?

Not sure what the cost of Torque converters are ?

Rgds Lee.

Do they use a Merc gearbox in these or something else? I think you'd be better off with the right specialist.

All my research on the internet says it's the torque converter I have the same problem
I have not resolved yet

Sorry Lee i missed this post ..

Ive changed valve bodys on a 996 before but never a Boxster , like all of us i have limited experience with Tiptronic boxes .. it's more a specialist area ..

The torque convertor is what i would normally assume is the fault but we had one in a while back and i believe it was brake bands at fault .. same symptoms .

It wasn't my job so i didn't pay much attention to it but i think we sent the box and convertor away to a specialist and had it repaired .. where and i have no idea so that's a google search .

It's not going to be cheap though so perhaps an ebay box and convertor might be a cheaper option .
