I had a strange noise on starting up this morning and this evening from cold.

Kind of like a blowing exhaust.

Drove a quarter of a mile and it stops.

Parked and warm started no noise and drove 30 miles ,stopped and started no noise.

Could it be the start of an exhaust leak?

Anyone had similar please?

PSE still works fine.

Baffled...sorry for the pun

How long does it last?
Secondary air pump would be my total guess.

My 2006 c4 did exactly the same as you described from cold sounded like silencer blowing then got warm and sounded normal, I noticed whilst it was making the noise 1 tailpipe was blowing a lot more that the other.
Turned out to be the cats one would bang and rattle when cold.
Fit 2new cats job done.

I would guess secondary air pump. It's meant to do that, it heats up the cats quicker. Horrible noise I agree. Can you compare with another owner near you?

I tried to video it to send to my mechanic and of course it didn't happen.

Garage said that secondary air pumps rarely fail and it could be a cracked exhaust bolt or leaking flange.

I guess I will be having a trip to the garage soon.

Sounds right, off to the Indy to get fixed.

Rusted nuts on both sides of the exhaust.

Shout out to Kev and the team DW Performance Ltd .

Really helped me out with fixing it.
Fixed there and then.
Great service, great price and highly recommended .
