3.6 C2 ownership thread

Latest updates

Once all the brackets came back from powder coating I decided it was false economy not to change the plastic supply/return pipes so those were ordered.

I then had a few lazy weeks cleaning underneath the front, fuel tank and areas no one will ever see, ensured all the PAS pipes and fittings were corrosion free and treated them with ACF50, I also removed all the plastic undertrays, again cleaned everything and ensured all the brake and A/C pipes were well protected.

Then it was a case of refitting everything and filling the coolant system with new Porsche spec antifreeze, couple of days running the car up to temp while still on stands and venting via the rads and the burp valve, I also added the third rad kit.

I bought the retro fit cruise kit from Porsche and installed that , however although my Foxwell NY520 will find certain locations to 'turn on cruise" I must still be missing something as no joy as yet, the car will have to go for a geo and AC regas so I'll ask DG Porsche to sort the programming.

Another change is to the wheels, I dug deep and ordered some Kerscher FX19's from Germany, Fuch reps, really nice quality and come with all the TuV paperwork. I will probably offer my recently refinished Lobsters for sale.

The car is currently minus bumper and bonnet, I had the paintshop round with the paint camera, several images were taken and then they came back with several spray out cards to get the bedt match to the wings, although its very close I expect the wings will need blending to be 100%

Cheers

Lovely wheels, just stunning all round.

Awesome thread and amazing attention to detail. I must clear my garage so I can play with mine in comfort.

Small update on the 997

Got the car over to DG Porsche in North Shields to have the retrofit cruise kit activated, although my Foxwell NT520 could find several locations to 'turn it on" obviously some coding was still missing. Took Gary just a few minutes to have the cruise light showing so I also asked him to programme the comfort setting on the fob to raise/lower the windows.

Having changed the A/C condensers we refgassed the system and as the front subframe had been out to do the cross over pipes a full geo set up was carried out.

I'm now torn whether I prefer the black lobsters to the Kerscher Fuchs reps, I think I'll end up fitting new tyres to the lobsters and swapping about.

So, from deleting the pcm unit altogether and fitting the oem cubby I've gone full corcle and fitted a new Kenwood unit with Apple car play etc

I've done this mainly to facilitate nav and phone but the kids intoduced me to Spotify so I can listen to Barry Manilow and David Cassidy whilst cruising the Autobahn next Summer

The installl was very straight forward utilising a harness conversion kit from Incartec , it was plug n play

Next job is new heater control buttons, I'm hoping Santa delivers them, I'm dropping enough hints

Cheers, Paul

Paul sterling effort as usual I missed your posts on stripping the rads which I am away to do on the turbo cant wait  I like the fuchs reps on the red car :thumb:

Out yesterday tyre kicking for a Winter runaround, took the opportunity to grab a photo, I wasn't sure about the Kerscher wheels after fitting them and I have been very tempted to put the lobsters back on, I think this pic may have changed my mind.

I know this will get me some grief , I usually SORN my car from September to April as the Cumbrian winter can be harsh.....so can the cumbrian summer !

However, the 997 remains taxed but not in regular use, after all the effort put into the underside I'm not keen to put it through salty roads but on the other hand there can be some lovely crisp frosty days for a run around the lakes.

I'm hoping to do a gearbox oil change soon and possibly a precautionary change of the gear linkage cables.

All the best

Nah, them wheels look rubbish mate!
I'll tell you what- i'll take them off your hands shall I??

#greatcolourcombination.

love them wheels

Having just spent an hour captivated by your very enjoyable post I felt compelled to say well done!
Amazing attention to detail, and I thought I was fastidious?

That's a truly beautiful car all the more more the hours you have put into it!
I enjoyed your post although with some envy as you have done exactly what I'd like to do to my 997.1 and although temporarily retired (well that was the plan) I've ended up spending most of my time working at my brothers workshop building / rebuilding / repairing race cars!

So just don't get the time to do what I'd like!

Thanks for taking the time to share your efforts!

Rgds Lee.

I think the issue is because you have done them exactly the same (black centres) so the 'look' is incredibly similar (not having Porsche crests on the Fuchs also looks a bit odd to me). Perhaps changing the shade of one of them from black to metallic black, or a metallic grey or even (as I have done Satin) would help to see them as 2 different looks?

Personally I'm thinking of leaving my lobsters silver so the contrast between the Fuchs and them is stark :thumb:

I've ordered new tyres for my lobsters , decided to refit those and sell the Kerscher FX19's

Hopefully the mrs won't notice !

Been six months since I updated this thread, not a lot happening , the car has been laid up over Winter.

The 'service due" warning came on in February, it would be two years since 911Sport did the last professional service prior to me buying the car in April 2018 and since then all the work I've done myself, engine out for the rear cooling pipes being the exception.

In the five or six thousand miles I've covered over the two years the car has had five oil and filter changes

In the current situation the country is in and with both myself and my wife shielding since early March the car has sat idle, the fact the service light was now on still annoyed me so I set to and dropped the oil and filter, I also did an oil change on the gearbox, I'm pleased to say the fill/drain plugs came out easily but did require some cleaning with the rotary wire brush , I wasn't willing to give Porsche over £20 each for new ones

I've used Millers TRX in the gearbox after taking advice from several sources,

The air filter that came out was almost as clean as the new replacement

Once all was well with the car ran up to temp and levels checked I used the icarsoft tool to reset the service light and stamped my own service book....!!

The car is back on the lobsters and the Fuchs reps were sold

We had planned to do both Dinslaken in May and a trip to Salzburg and Lake Garda in July buy for obvious reasons thats not happening, in anticipation I had tried the spare wheel from my wifes 986 both for fitment on the hub and in the front. I have in the past simply carried the factory sealant and a recovery policy just in case, I think for long runs now I'll carry the space saver.

All the best

That is one well pampered car!

Genuine question - why are you changing the oil every 6 months with the mileage that you are doing? I appreciate that we don't want old oil floating around, but it seems excessive. If nothing else you'll run out of space in your service book!!
