Cam chain noise on start-up V6 Diesel Engine

I have noticed a rattle on start up on my V6 Diesel, it happens about every other start up. Not normally from cold. It lasts about a second then disappears. Before I pull the trigger on an expensive engine out repair, has anyone else had this problem and lived with it? I'm worried the engine my lunch itself. Many thanks in advance.

Could be an hydraulic tappet as a worn cam chain/tensioner would reliably make the noise from stone cold.

Im told its the chain tensioner which isnt an expensive item to change, apart from the fact its an engine out job to do!!

Really surprised no one else on here has had the same issue.
