Water ingress to rear seat

Hi all

I've sprung a leak in the rear seat, drivers side. Water is getting in through the large grommet that has wiring through its centre. Pic attached hopefully.

Over time, the water saturates the seat carpet and trickles down to the footwell carpet.

Is this leak common?

Pretty common to get leaks inside. Normally blocked sunroof drains on the coupe and blocked drain trays on the cabs. Not sure if there could be something else though with that bung.

Just make sure you don't get it under the passenger's seat as this is where a lot of electrical stuff is and it gets fried and is expensive to fix.
 
Can i just confirm .. this isn't a Targa / Cab and it doesn't have a sunroof ?

This bung is actually under the carpet where a passenger in the rear would sit .. ?

Water is very unlikely to be coming up via this bung .. more likely down and i would suggest the rear quarter light window seal is allowing the ingress .. drain here to check ..

Thanks for the prompt replies guys.

This is a coupe with sunroof.

I've discounted the sunroof as being the cause as the carpet and sponge of the side panel and parcel shelf is bone dry.


2 years ago I had a problem where the quarter light window was loose. I've checked that but will check the drain area shortly.
 
Easiest way may be to strip out the back as that's pretty easy. Get the carpet out to dry as it never will as its so thick if left in situ {we'll maybe not never} and then sit in the back and get someone to run a hose pipe over and see where it's coming from.
 
Have checked the quarterlight drain - all fine.

Have pulled the carpet up to dry and put copious amounts of talcum down.

Will either hose tomorrow or wait for the impending downpour.
 
Progress!

Talcum down and a short hosing of the roof, quarterlight and door areas. A trickle as per pic.

Tracing back, I initially thought it was from the Allen bolt that retains the quarterlight. But no. It is actually coming from higher and travelling through the bodywork, coming out at the holes that retain the trim clips and down.

Ive checked the sunroof drain tube and all looks well.

think it is from the corner of the rear window.

Currently applying Seek N Seal.
