997.2 damaged plug on wiring loom that connects MAF

Hi, on my 997.2 Carrera 4S I have completely damaged the plug on the wiring loom that connects to the MAF. The MAF is fine, it is a badged Bosch part. The loom came loose and got mangled by the drive belt. I expected I would simply get a new plug and remake the wire connections and be right as reign. Unfortunately it seems Porsche don't sell the plug separately and I have to purchase a complete new engine loom. Am I missing something? There must be a simpler fix, or a supplier who will simply sell me the plug surely? The plug has 5 flat female slots for spade connections and is apparently a special for more recent porches, including the Boxster.

Does anyone have any suggestions I can't afford £900 for a new loom but the car is off the road in the meantime.

Does anyone know the OEM of the plug? It is not Bosch! I have tried the usual breaker yard websites and even a wiring loom repair specialist in Reading, all to no avail.

Any help/ideas gratefully received.

as an emergency replacement then these might work ..

try google and see if anything is available .. if not your into OPC and what they can supply ..

if you have any part of the connection still viable then its a case of new pins only for the wiring if you can source them .

ill check at work tomorrow to see if we have anything but im afraid i think not as i've just sorted our wiring box and i don't recall this plug in their.

Thanks for the advice, I had reached the same conclusion late last night but did not have enough connectors. Bought some more, fitted them and all is well.

I just need to get a proper plug now so that when I trade in..... the old plug got too damaged to be reused. But, now that I have some time I will just have to keep looking at all the possible websites.

If the connections in the old plug are ok .. i suspect they will be then the link from P9XX seems to be the correct plug .. just a case of removing the old connectors .

I had a good look at work .. the connections i might have but not the plug i'm afraid .
 
Brilliant guys thanks a lot. I agree the plug looks like the perfect match. I also noticed on the website that for an extra fee (£1) they will supply it with tails. So I'll take the easy option.

Absolutely brilliant, my first piece of luck for days! One question, P9XX, how on earth did you find this? I have been looking for days, websites, stockists visits, phoning Bosch, you name it I have tried it and got nowhere.

A bit of luck and a bit of determination.

Try searching for "Bosch MAF Sensor Connector" on Ebay.
Then search the AutoClick shop for 5 pin connectors. They have 29 variants but only 1 looks like the one on my car. The only doubt I have is that no dimensions are quoted + the unseen side on their picture should have a semi-circular cut-out to match the sensor. A quick telephone call to them and they should be able to confirm the cut-out and suitability.

Good luck with the repair, let us know if you're successful.

Hi guys, just thought I'd let you know, the connector arrived an Saturday and is a perfect fit, so £900 saved and I feel a bit less silly for making such a basic error in the first place.

Now I need to start searching for a replacement waterproof rubber boot to cover the connector so that nothing looks different.
 
If a Mechanic tells you he doesn't make mistakes then he is a liar .. S*%T happens .. mistakes happen so don't worry about it .

If it can be repaired then that's all that counts .
 
Thanks for this update, what a great community. A quick glance at page 27 and I am unsure as the boot has circular openings at both ends. I'll look more closely later.

As it happens I do have a superseal boot, unused, as I wanted to keep it looking as original as possible for trade-in value but having looked I actually prefer the straight superseal boot as it keeps the part well away from the belt.
