What is the recommended oil for this car? I believe it might be 0-40 but I have seen discussion on other forums about 5-40 and, I think, 5-50?

Mostly road but some track use.

This is what Porsche recommend in the owners manual:

Porsche recommends Mobil1

Approval:
Porsche C40, alternatively: VW 511 00

SAE viscosity class:
1) SAE 0W-40
2) SAE 5W-40

1) For all temperature ranges.
2) For the temperature range above -25 °C.

This is what my car has.. albeit a C4S 991 based in the UK... if in any doubt just call your local friendly Porsche dealer to check.

991.2?
RTFM.

Thanks. I was wondering if 5-40 might be better for occasional track use.

Also, how low on the oil level reading should it be for one litre to not overfill? It's about halfway down at the moment.

If its on half way, be careful not to overfill. You prob would not need more than appx half a litre bottle to top up. The full bottle will be too much. Always suggested to pour a bit in at a time and check level, then repeat until its topped up.

Cheers.

In my M3 it would tell me to put one litre in - simple.

Back to add oil, check, add oil, check... ;-)
