Ok so let's the guffaws out of the way first, I've locked my key in the rear boot and have no spare............2001 Boxster S.
So there I am in Tesco bit of shopping, roof down, sun shining the worlds a fab place....then I accidentally lock the key in the boot and the car has locked itself.....because I remotely opened the car but reached over the door to operate the switch,as the door hadn't physically been opened with the allotted time frame the car locks itself.......here starts 11 wasted hours of my life I'll never get back.
The emergency release isn't there, I have no spare key because the car only came with one and I never bothered to replace it.
So the rac came...sorry mate no can help I'll get a locksmith, he came sorry mate no can help, phoned my local garage ..sorry mate no can do, got another locksmith who spent over an hour trying to short out the switch to no avail back the rac ..can you recover my car ...yep four to five hours....then it gets worse the alarm goes off every time you go near the car so can't take it home the neighbours will kill me.
This all started at 930 yesterday morning eventually my car was put on a wrecker at 8pm to go to an airfield storage yard, so alls we'll that ends well....not quite the roof is still down it's thundered and rained the likes of which Noah would have been proud so now the car is also very wet, it's going to take three days to get a key from Germany via OPC then it has to programmed ...300 of your very English boris is prime minister pounds,oh and did I mention my wallet, credit cards , house keys and what will be a very smelly lot of shopping are still in the locked boot.
The lesson here is if you only have one key for your Porsche ..get another one ..TODAY.
I can't believe that such a fab car has shitty systems like this.totally ridiculous . Think my love of my Boxster has now gone as she will be when get another key, get her dried out etc.

Sorry to hear of your woes. Sounds very painful. You will enjoy the car soon I am sure

Wow ...... that made for painful reading ....... not to sure there is a silver lining to that very black cloud ...... apart from onward and forward whilst biting ones thumb ...... good luck with the sale ....... :)

Erm .. i'm not really sure i should answer this as it will probably make you mad ...

There is an emergency release for the boot lid .. assuming it is still attached ..

https://www.renntech.org/topic/11622-rear-trunk-lid-wont-open/

or just google it .

It's under the heat shields above the cat and usually n/s/r ... its a cable that goes to the lock and you pull it ... i've used this method several times over the years .

Rac or AA should well know how to get into these , somewhat surprised the RAC didn't know how to .

A case of where Google would have been your friend ....... but of course it's not the first that jumps to mind ..... well not my mind ....... I think I may have contacted a Porsche specialist before recovery though ....

:dont know:

Yup i read that but i can in no way understand why it would have been removed .. there is simply no reason to do this .

It can easily move position and be hard to find and it's possible its been mounted under the rear lamp by someone but to actually remove it then imho it wasn't .. merely harder to find is all .

if it has been removed then there is simply no option than to try a new key .. if that doesn't work , but it should , then you are into cutting the boot lid open .

Every component to release this is inside the boot .

Hence my feeling was its there but hidden .

Boxster boot still locked and it gets better

So firstly thanks for all the tips and commiserations on my previous post, I thought I'd share the latest instalment with you all.
So picked up my 300 pound new key from my opc at Colchester whose praises I cannot sing high enough, the guys and saf in parts have been amazing. So took the key to the car and managed to get the ignition on and at least managed to close the roof to keep the now incessant rain out but sadly still no open boot!!! So I decide it'll have to be recovered to my OPC for them to sort out. Off I go to arrange this only to be told well yes we can but lord only knows when we're booking into next month!
So again the very helpful service man and me sit looking thru you tube videos to find the cable which he insists must be there. After much searching it turns out that and wait for this....the reason the new key wouldn't open the boot lock is because the alarm is still active, we can't immobilise the alarm without the key that's in the boot, we can't program the new key (a further 70 pounds) until the car is at the OPC, we can't get the car to the garage until we get the key out of the boot OMG I now challenge anyone to say they can Knick a Boxster! So the latest in the saga is I've now been put in touch with a Porsche restorer who is literally 100 yards away from where the car is stored so will have the car taken there today and he's going to try to find the cable , which I suspect will entail breaking the rear light, at least I'll get my car back! Watch this space.

I'm a little confused so i'll just say what i would do ..

Please look at the pictures i posted on your other thread .. the cable can be under the n/s/r light unit or somewhere under the ally paneling under the bumper / pu ... n/s/r .

hazards on , key in ign then code it using ipas codes from the dealer .. i'm sure i have done this in the past .. car had to be broken into so smashed window and i coded the key on as normal .. i remember sitting on broken glass is all i can say as it was ages ago .

it's the remote part that needs to be coded on and it sounds like this hasn't been accomplished .

If you get at the alarm control unit ( 986 ) , under the passenger seat .. then an earth to pin A34 a BU/BK wire .. blue / black and put an earth to it .. Fuse D7 .. a RD .. red wire and 12 volts to this then the boot should open as you are powering it up .

logically if you can switch the ign on then the fuse will have power .. you just need an earth on the above wire .

Final instalment of the locked Boxster rear boot lid

At long last I have my Boxster back on the drive and in one piece.
Thanks to demort for the tips on how to get over my little problem,we tried powering the module under the seat sadly didn't work, we also tried powering the switch from the fuse board sadly that didn't work either.
It seems that the service guy at the OPC in Colchester was 100% correct in that whilst the alarm is still alarmed absolutely nothing can be done! I guess what we could have done was to recover the car to the dealership with the new key and then have the new key programmed and gain entry.
What actually did happen was that after trying to power and override modules, alarms ,and fuses, after searching under lights etc the restoration man started to remove the rear bumper which again wasn't 100% successful,as some of the bolts were inaccessible. He managed to put his hand up under the bumper in the rear left hand area of the light unit and happened upon the end of the emergency release cable!! Bingo, tugged it and the boot opened to reveal the key , shopping, credit cards, keys etc. .
I still have to have the new key programmed which I'll do next month basically cos I'm skint this month now ha ha .
The final cost to remove the key stands me at about 700 pounds this includes the new key, storage , payment to locksmith, and the hero that got in.
So anybody attending Helmingham classics this weekend can come and smile or even laugh (discreetly ) at the (mis) adventure of my Boxster and the lost key.
Huge thanks and recognition to Colchester Porsche , ingenium classics and the locksmith whose name I never actually got but all these people really put themselves out for me and I'm hugely grateful.
One final note the earlier Boxster with the lever and rod release don't appear to have the emergency release although facility exists to fit one .

A good result in the end and im glad its sorted .

I will say i very much doubt anyone thinks its funny .. i've come close to doing similar things in the past and i expect so have others so don't beat yourself up about this .

Also i wasn't aware the manual release doesn't have an emergency release so i've learned something new .. :thumb:

Quite an epic, glad you are now sorted, well done.👍

Just bought a spare key this afternoon, thanks for the kick up the butt. 🙂

What a saga, would it have been cheaper to go through the bootlid and buy another one secondhand?

The Boxster boot lid

I'm glad I shared my issue with my fellow Porsch fans and thanks for all for support and tips. Good to see another Porsche key sold, you know it makes sense. Would it have been cheaper to cut the boot lid off.....yes probably as I've just received a bill from the RAC because it wasn't a breakdown it was driver error and apparently they had to send a special transporter.........which actually they didn't.........so the final total 830 pounds ....a second hand boot lid and respray.....possibly about the same cost.
So if any of you do anything like this ever and you're in the AA/RAC then remember you've had your keys nicked!,not locked them in the boot.
Enjoy the rest of the summer.😀
