Narrow body wide arches

What are people's opinions on fitting wide arches to a narrow body? My arches need a little attention and this may be the perfect time to just cut them out and fit the wider ones. I've googled and only found a few pictures. My car is a 996.1 aero in midnight blue but I'm pretty sure I'll go for a colour change.

My biggest gripe would be to have to go for wider wheels but I think with enough spacing and some clever colour selection for the sport designs,I might be able to pull it off

Personally I like them but they are very 'JDM".

On the JDM scene they are often used to hide a multitude of sins!

But if you like them, do them! Wasn't it the 993 GT2RS that had something like this? So there is some Porsche precedent.

Yeah jdm's right. I like them but at some stage I'll maybe sell this car so I don't want something that's gona stop it selling. I like them and you don't see too much of that sort of thing in the porsche world. I'll see how I get on at making standard arches first I suppose and go from there.

I think they look good. But, I would only do it if I absolutely loved the look, as it will cost a lot and you are very committed to it (not irreversible, but costly to undo it).

Personally, if you have half an eye to selling it, I wouldn't do it.

I guess it depends how likely you are to sell and how much you like the look.

Love the wide arch look!

I'm a big fan of the old and new Japan slant nose conversion

That looks awesome but no doubt that's mega money. I'm only talking about small arches like I have pictured above. Pretty sure I could make decent ones out of steel but then there's the bumper parts to get around. I've a template made for the standard arch so I'll get a go at making them today. Hopefully.

You should be googling "rauh welt RWB Porsche" if that's your kind of thing....

Not sure if he's ever done a 996, or that when he did he also fitted a 997 front, or that the internet and photoshop is just bigger than real life....(!) :dont know:

For your consideration.

Looks a bit expensive for me. I only really wanted something that I could use standard wheels with spacers.

I used to have a bit of a downer on this kind of thing, in that the flares should only be fitted if the car needed them, rather than the owner's ego. But now I think that blue car looks good and you may well find that the modification opens a new market for the car, as very few people have the balls to do that to a Porsche.

Yeah I definitely think it's a ballsy move. I'd say if I went that route, the market to sell would be a lot smaller than normal. I'm only considering it as I'm going to cut the arches out anyway.
My arches aren't that bad, I'm only doing them now as I'm sorting the sills and anything else that's not up to scratch

Had a go at making the arch tonight. It's not 100% but it fits perfectly to the old 1. It'll just need a little work here n there but I'm very happy with it
