More a reminder to myself of what has been done but hopefully you can get some ideas to help you out. I know I have learnt a load from others projects and builds

Bought at end of October 2018.
Basalt black C2s 3.8 with full history
Had a rebuild in 2018 at 83k by previous owners as had bore scoring on 4,5 and 6 cylinders.
Hartech parts and all put together by phoenix motorsport – new gaskets, tensioners, chains, seals, washers, crews and bolts etc. proper nuts and bolts rebuild with a 5 figure bill 😉
Crank was polished with new shells and had new crank casing too.
Does not use a drop of oil and runs really sweet.
New Dansk sports exhaust on it too.
has the BOSE sound system which is epic
Had a nice 997 plate on it but that had to go. Have my own plate on it.

Options:
LC9z – Basalt Black
C16 – UK car (RHD)
026 - Silver coloured instrument dials & stopwatch (997)
249 - Tiptronic S transmission
342 - Seat heating, left & right
407 - 19-inch Sport Design wheels (987 & 997)
431 - Multi-function steering wheel (touch & feel)
432 - Steering wheel with Tiptronic S paddles
454 - Cruise control
567 – Windshield green graduated tint
610 – DVD navigation package for Europe
640 – Sports chrono package plus (987 & 997)
666 – PCM2 telephone (GSM) (967, 996 & 997)
670 – PCM2 Navigation (967, 996 & 997)
680 - Bose sound package (>MY2002)
692 - Remote CD changer (6-disc)

some better pics once home. a good snow foam, clean and then got the polish out. also got the clay out (Bilt hamber) to start removing the dirt on it.

First big job turned out to be the water pump which I knew was noisy and managed to get some ££ off when I got the car as I could hear the start of it when I picked up the car. have had it before on 911s and its a very clear noise.

One of those things as a consumable and at least I know its good for a whole while longer now and 12 months warranty parts and fitting.

Then it was tackling the Tiptronic 'experience' as I call it. the shifters on the steering wheel are not great and in the wrong place for me. the 997 is a daily, on winter tyres now hence why I went for a tip.

Learned a lot from members on here about taking the AMG paddles and then getting these into the steering wheel.

This was done by the guys at Scotts Performance from Dartford who look after a lot of my cars.

Car was a little unsure at first but it learns quick and after a bit of adjustment working well. its never going to be a manual but driving in M mode and being able to come down the gears with the paddles makes it feel more involved.

finally I done the resonator delete so got the bung from sypder performance in Bisley along with one of their sports panel filters. sounds a lot better now.

into decemeber 18 and thought about winter wheels and tyres as had a moment in the summer tyres.

some nice 18s Carrera classic rims in athreacite came up on here with good conti witner tyres so no brainer with the price. thanks Bomber on here.

I really like the combo of dark car with dark wheels and really growing on me.

rear wheels did look a bit lost in the rear arches so got some OEM 996 spacers off Flea bay for £45 delivered. also came with 20 newish bolts as well as 10 bolts with caps. what a result as a lot of the bolts I removed from my car had lost the round sleeve and had corroded away so double bonus to get some decent bolts in there too.

Xmas done and rolling through to new year....new years eve got to clean the car and put key in ignition. just to have radio on.

start cleaning and I start thinking wow someone has a bonfire on....few mins later smoke coming out of the vents in the engine lid. oh ***** its defo an electrical smell and that putrid smell.

car was not even running...turns out the original alternator had given up and had burnet out the back of it and the bearings were shot to bits. bad luck I guess and one of those things so Bosch replacement in and back up n running.

not a cheap thing but again sth else less to worry about down the line...

picture of the back of the alt with the 997 part number. don't bother going to Porsche as its a bosch alt with the Porsche tax and part number on it!! its a 150A unit.

also when you take out the cooling line to get access to the alt they always break as brittle plastic. its a small T shape bracket to hold and connect pipes. part number is 996.106.226.52 if you need it.

also notices a slight hissing sound once back in. turned out the oil breather pipe from the engine up to the throttle body had gone so that had to be replaced. cheapish part from Porsche and had to be done whilst all the other gubbins is out. car runs a lot smoother and better now as suspect it had gone for a while with all the oil residue around the pipe and split.

Porsche part number for that is 997.107.145.02. pic attached at bottom of the new part and its plenum and throttle body out too.

more pics of the offending item and where it sits in the engine bay. its a stupid design as its very hard plastic in a space where it gets very hot. nice work Porsche.

in other news I decided to do a few bits on the ride/handling side.

new rear anti roll bar bushes as the old girl was banging a bit over bumps and noises. easy job, jack up the car , take the bolts out, slide out the ARB and fit new bushes. cheap job too and £25 from the OPC.

also was a bit concerned at the OEM engine mounts as still original, car is 13 years old and wanted to tighten/freshen things up a bit.

went to Matt again at Type 911 in Beckenham who done me another cracking for cash for the RS engine mounts with longer bolts. no additional NVH and the car feels more planted, better turn in and gets the power down better and just digs in. feels more stable on the motorway. maybe placebo but not a major job to do and helps with handling.

pretty much up to date.

done an oil and filter change myself as its was due a minor service. major done at engine rebuild time feb 2018.

oh yeah I did put some LED Canbus free lights into the front side lenses and really like them. brighter than OEM and much closer colour match to the OEM xenon main lights. easy job and $11 from amazon so right result. more here:

http://911uk.com/viewtopic.php?t=131177

Jobs to do in near future:

change brake fluid
change diff oil
get front and rear bumper re painted
fit black mesh to front area to protect rads

might look to do the bigger plenum and TB as well as the TG 200 Cell CATs as liked those on the old 996 for better flow and noise.

picked up the old girl after left it for 10 days at garage whilst on hols.

quite a decent list....

changed brake fluid
changed diff oil
get front and rear bumper re painted
lower centre console gearlever surround painted in basalt black
plastic around door cards by door handles paitned in basalt black
fit black mesh to front area to protect rads

also needed:
new front pads and pad sensors (red fault light on dash - caliper pins had ceased so the inner pads were wearing a lot quicker than outer side!!)
driver side headlight washer jet (stupid things as unnecessary and always break)

Sorry to go off-topic but your Reg' reminds me of my Dad's old Vauxhall Cresta - 786 FCV. The first car I ever did 100 mph in. :cloud9:

liveky weather today so a decent clean and polish up.

removed the winter wheels and tyres plus the spacers on the rear and back to summers and Pzeros all round. so much better and quieter than the horrid Bridgestone's that were on there when I bought it.

busy day today

Airbox out and done some damage with the Dremel. took out the plastic housing for the noise resonator as it was blanked off. quite a bit of plastic in there and more room in the air box now.

also time for 200 cell cats and new lambda sensors as they were the originals in there and not coming out.

also replaced the clamps with new Dansk ones from ECP as the others were on last legs.

thoughts? I love it. great noise on throttle but not too loud on tick over.

throttle response is sharper. picks up quicker and its goes through the rev range quicker too. has an amazing roar above 6k rpm so very happy with that. a lot lighter than OEM too. so far no yellow lights and good drive home.

they were 996 CATs so you have to trim them down a bit to fit into the 997 config but no big deal.

Front shocks replaced to oem (B4) spec. near side had totally blown , car had new springs all round about 20k miles ago so re used the shocks and top mounts.

painted the rear tail pipes black with UHT paint . takes ages to dry but after a light rub down of the pipes with some wet n dry it stuck like 5hit to a blanket.

removed the silver oem Carrera S badge as too much for me. matt black 911 on to match the tail pipes

black vinyl edge covers for the front lights as that outer bit had some cracking and never liked that finish.

brakes bled, decent pedal now and annoying rattle in the front tweeter found and sorted.

switched the standard seats out for some hard backed sports seats which I have been after for ages.

prefer them as they are a lot more comfortable, wider across the shoulder, have the wings and more support with the hard back.

JMG Porsche had some come up and were willing to trade mine in for a decent price. popped down there and fitted myself and very happy with the outcome. its 4 torx bolts to remove and then unplug the connector and then fit the others. remember to have the ignition off.

need a little bit of TLC but have the Gliptone kit to treat, prep and then re dye and get sorted.
