I''ve just bought the cheapest 911 in the UK!

Brilliant thread. Really enjoyed reading it. People on here know my story is a bit similar when I was offered £5700 & a 51 plate diesel Mondeo I decided to keep it. I took the car as a part exchange as I (rather irrationally) thought it would be easy to sell. I did no research and I didn't even road test the car. I had no idea about the IMS issue or how the lack of history would be a big no no. After multiple attempts to sell it online at a constantly lowering price I finally decided (after the Mondeo insult) to keep it. After all, it drove well, everything worked and I started to get the 911 bug.

I set myself a £2000 budget to tidy it up, service it & make it look few years younger (in my eyes). I valued the car @£8k so I call it the £10k 911. I love the fact that a new Ford Ka is about the same price. I set an allowance of £500 per year to service & maintain it. I've had £££ change every year so I treated it to new tyres and geometry before a Goodwood trackday last year.

Note. Rear spoiler & dodgy wheels came with the car. It's not everyone's taste. But I like it. It's a £10k car. If you don't like it, go buy a Ka!!!

So far it's been.
To Spa. Twice.
Swiss alpine road trip. Epic.
Italy.
Germany. Yes. Round the Nurburgring twice too.
Highlands.
Goodwood track day.
Loads loads more.

In Goodwood pit lane.

Near Ben Nevis.

Magazine photo shoot.

I hope you get to enjoy your budget 996 as much as we have ours.

John.

This is awesome!! I am seriously too scared to take it to a track and I guess it's not really my thing. I try to enjoy driving it on every journey (like now when I'm about to go for breakfast with my daughter :))

Totally agree though, the price on these cars is now so within reach for a lot of people and the reason I did it was it is achievable and usable (I'm after a car seat for a baby and a push chair that will fit now)
If 911s have always been out of budget for most people and then suddenly aren't then people need to be told! :)

Weird thing is, I'm not even a Porsche guy (more into just generally crap old cars) but loving driving this so far (Apart from the fear of losing all of my money if it dies :|)

Those wheels really make the car....it's great to hear what fun can be had on a budget.

I'm not sold on the stone guards but otherwise that's lovely

Just worked out it's the front bumper change that's the most transformative (and the wheels, obvs). What's the bumper?

Struggle to believe that cosmetic transformation cost only 2 bags.

Did all the work myself except painting the EBay 997t/996 hybrid bumper & wheel re-firb.

About £1500 on cosmetics, £500 on mechanical.

Bloody impressive, make no mistakes.

Off topic, but since you asked. Still needs a few wee bits and bobs done.

Love these, reminds me of when my older brother had one back in the day :)

The father of a friend of mine got a 1.9 205 gti as his new company car just after we all turned 17 and passed our tests. Because it was a company car my mate was insured to drive it, jammy sod!

That is super clean, my god! Aren't those the Rallye stripes on the front though?!

Dig it :thumb:

PTS stripes (Peugeot Talbot Sport). They were on the Rallye but also available on other models. More common in Europe to see them on gtis. Did mine with a bit of a euro theme with the yellow driving lights.

I'm a sucker for go faster stripes.

That's exactly how my brother got his black 1.9...sadly, I wasn't old enough to drive :(

Latest video - worst "look at my watch" video EVER.

1) Hat is growing on me. The videos are like chatting to a guy in the pub which I think makes it. If the videos end up slick with some crap over graphic'd rush and you turn into Shmee it won't be authentic.

2) Radio 1 - you're too old to listen to Radio 1. (although Chemical Brothers track is good.) Take a listen to Maceo Plex next time.

3) Don't you dare buy an Aston. You aren't old enough.

4) Lastly - please. PLEASE get a magic sponge and some gliptone and get rid of the shiny steering wheel. 30 minutes of your time will make all the difference.

Brilliant feedback! :)

...but you haven't seen the outside of it today
